Palais Garnier Tickets – Palais Garnier Self-Guided Tour

The cheapest Palais Garnier tickets I found are $28: the self-guided entry ticket, 4.6 stars from 19,792 reviews, and the Manatour guided tour. The Paris Opera sells visit tickets itself, from 10 to 25 euros for a self-guided visit per operadeparis.fr. None of the options here is an opera or ballet performance ticket. For a first visit I’d book the self-guided ticket, or the guided tour if you want the story.

I compared four Palais Garnier tickets and tours on GetYourGuide. Two are plain visits to the building: a self-guided entry ticket and a guided tour. The other two are perfume-workshop days that include the visit as one stop. This matters because the Palais Garnier does two jobs. It is a working opera house, home of Paris Opera Ballet performances, and it is a monument you can walk through by day. The Palais Garnier tickets on this page are for the second job. Prices are in US dollars, taken from the listings in November 2026, and the buttons open GetYourGuide through affiliate links (see my about page).

Palais Garnier Tickets at a Glance

Here is every one of the Palais Garnier tickets side by side, with the official price next to it.

What Details
Ticket types 1 self-guided entry ticket, 1 guided tour, 2 perfume-workshop combinations
Price range $28 (self-guided and guided) to $291 (workshop, visit and lunch)
Areas by type Public areas, grand staircase, foyers and salons on the entry ticket; a guided route of the public rooms on the tour
Official ticket Self-guided visit 10 to 25 euros, guided tour 18 to 35 euros, per operadeparis.fr
Time to allow 1.5 hours for a visit; 3 to 4 hours for the perfume combinations
Address Pl. de l’Opéra, 75009 Paris, France (per Google Maps)
Hours Google Maps shows none for this place; the official booking calendar sets visit times

The difference between Palais Garnier tickets is not which rooms you reach, because the public areas are the same on the entry ticket and the tour. When you pick among Palais Garnier tickets, the question is whether you want a guide, and whether you want the building to be one stop in a longer day. The official site also sells performances, a different product that I explain below.

Visit Tickets or Performance Tickets

Two things are sold under the name Palais Garnier tickets, and mixing them up is the commonest mistake. A visit ticket is a timed slot in daytime, valid for the public areas: the staircase, the foyers, the salons and the library-museum. A performance ticket is a seat for an evening or matinee show, bought from the Paris Opera, and it puts you in the auditorium with the Chagall ceiling above you. The official visit page covers only visits and states that no visit tickets are sold on site.

All four Palais Garnier tickets on this page are visit tickets. The Manatour listing says outright that opera performance tickets are not included, and the self-guided listing says the performance hall may be closed for rehearsals. So if your goal is to hear music or see dancers, skip the cards below and go to the Paris Opera. If your goal is the architecture, the cards below are the right Palais Garnier tickets, and the difference between them is a guide, a cancellation rule and a perfume workshop.

Price is the other gap. Official visit tickets range from 10 euros for ages 13 to 25 from France or the EEA up to 25 euros for adults from outside the EEA, and GetYourGuide sells the same self-guided visit at $28 with a digital ticket delivered after booking. I’d treat that as a convenience price, not a discount, and compare it with the official page for your own age group before paying.

Palais Garnier Entry Tickets

The Palais Garnier entry tickets with a human guide are the Manatour tour. It costs $28, the same as the self-guided ticket, and scores 4.5 from 238 reviews. This is the guided one of the four Palais Garnier tickets, and the listing offers three tour options, runs 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, and the guide speaks French or English. It includes the public rooms and not the private areas, and it says plainly that it does not include opera performance tickets. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead, which the plain entry ticket does not offer.

“if was smooth and informative. the guide Laurent tried her best to show us the best of the place and tells us stories and history about the opera.” – GetYourGuide review

Reviewers of this tour keep praising named guides who were engaged and knowledgeable. One warned that signage at the entrance is thin and that you should arrive 30 minutes early, because there are several queues before you find your group.

There is a good reason to arrive 30 minutes before the tour begins.
— GetYourGuide reviewer

The official guided tour is priced above this listing: 35 euros full rate for adults from outside the EEA per operadeparis.fr. The listing has several options, so check which date and language you are choosing before you pay.

Palais Garnier Tickets and Prices

The most expensive way into the building apart from the lunch package is a three-hour perfume day from Paris Top Sights Tours at $140. Of all the Palais Garnier tickets here it is the only one that starts away from the opera: you make your own fragrance first, then walk to the Palais Garnier for a self-guided visit, with a stop at Galeries Lafayette if you pick that option. The listing includes the Palais Garnier entrance ticket, the Grand Staircase, the salons and the Grand Foyer, subject to availability. A guided tour inside the opera is not included. It scores 4.3 from only 14 reviews, so the evidence is thin.

“We enjoyed the workshop and making our own perfume. Pretty cool” – GetYourGuide review

One reviewer said the museum part felt rushed. Another enjoyed making the perfume. I read that as a fun add-on that costs about five times the plain ticket, so I’d book it for the perfume, not for the opera.

Palais Garnier Tour

If you search for a Palais Garnier tour, the best-reviewed listing is a self-guided ticket, not a guided one, so the word “tour” is used loosely. It costs $28, takes 1.5 hours and has 4.6 stars from 19,792 reviews. The listing includes the public areas, the Library-Museum of the Opera, the Pythia basin rotunda, the grand staircase, the grand foyer, the Moon and Sun salons and the tapestries of the Rotonde du Glacier. It also includes the exhibition “Les Révolutions du Ring”, running from 27 October 2026 to 20 February 2027. The listing does not include a guide, and a media guide costs 8 euros on site.

“A truly beautiful experience. Opera Garnier is rich in beauty and it shines what you see in Paris through your trip: a mix of classic art with the evaluation of history through the years.” – GetYourGuide review

The official price is 15 euros for adults from France or the EEA, and 10 to 20 euros for ages 13 to 25. If you need a real guide among these Palais Garnier tickets, the Manatour listing above is the one to look at, and the official guided tours start at 25 euros for EEA adults. I compare every Palais Garnier tour side by side on my Palais Garnier tours page.

Palais Garnier Tickets Ballet

Palais Garnier tickets for ballet are sold by the Paris Opera, not by a visit listing. According to Wikipedia, the company opened the Opéra Bastille in 1989 and now uses the Palais Garnier mainly for ballet. The 1,979-seat theatre is where Paris Opera Ballet performs, so a ballet ticket gets you into the auditorium that visitors often cannot enter by day.

I did not find a performance price on the pages I could read, and none of the four GetYourGuide products includes one. The Manatour tour says so directly. See the Paris Opera website for the season and its prices, and treat a visit ticket and a performance ticket as two separate purchases.

Palais Garnier Price

The Palais Garnier price depends on who you are and which of the Palais Garnier tickets you book, and the last of the four listings is the dearest. The Paris Top Sights Tours day with a perfume workshop, a self-guided visit and lunch at the Grand Hôtel costs $291 for 4 hours and has no rating yet. It starts at 9 Rue Scribe, runs in English, and cancels free up to 24 hours ahead. Treat the price as a package: the lunch and the workshop are most of it. It is a leftover in my ranking, not the best match for a visit.

The official site says reduced rates need proof and ID, and that adult tickets at the standard rate are for residents or citizens of countries outside the EEA. Check the rules for your age group, because the gap between 10 and 25 euros is larger than the gap between the two $28 GetYourGuide listings.

Palais Garnier Tickets Online

Buying Palais Garnier tickets online is the only way in, and a Palais Garnier ticket bought on the day does not exist. The official page states that online booking is mandatory and that no visit tickets are sold on site. You can buy from the Paris Opera itself or from authorised agencies, and sales open for the next 30 days. Entry is allowed up to 30 minutes after your scheduled time. Free tickets, for example for children aged 12 and under, are also booked online and collected at the ticket office on the day.

A GetYourGuide Palais Garnier ticket is delivered digitally right after booking, per the listing. The practical difference from the official ticket is the cancellation rule: the self-guided GetYourGuide ticket is non-refundable, as is the official self-guided one, while the Manatour tour and both perfume combinations cancel free up to 24 hours ahead.

What Is the Palais Garnier

The Palais Garnier is a 1,979-seat opera house at the Place de l’Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, built from 1861 to 1875 on the orders of Napoleon III, per Wikipedia. Wikidata names Charles Garnier as the architect and 1875 as the year it opened (Wikidata). It has been a monument historique of France since 1923.

The building is famous for its grand staircase, its foyers and its decoration, which is what Palais Garnier tickets for a visit show you. The auditorium, with its Chagall ceiling that one GetYourGuide reviewer mentions, is part of the building but not guaranteed on a visit.

Is Palais Garnier Worth Visiting

Is the Palais Garnier worth visiting if you do not like opera? I think so, because the reviewers who liked it were talking about the rooms, not the music. One wrote that it is magical and a bit of an overload for the senses. Google Maps rates the Palais Garnier 4.7 from 61,985 reviews, and the self-guided ticket sits at 4.6 from 19,792.

Great time. Worth time and effort. Only negative. The theatre (auditorium) was closed
— GetYourGuide reviewer

A second reason to say yes is the exhibition running inside the public areas until 20 February 2027, “Les Révolutions du Ring”, which the self-guided ticket includes and which the Paris Opera presents with the BnF. Another is the price: even the dearest plain-visit option, the guided tour, costs the same $28 as the self-guided one. Whichever of these Palais Garnier tickets you choose, you are paying for a building that has been a protected monument for a century.

The risk is the auditorium. Rehearsals close it without warning, and the listings and the official page both say no ticket guarantees access. If seeing the hall matters most, a performance ticket is the surer route.

Opening Hours and Getting There

Visit times for Palais Garnier tickets are set in the official booking calendar, and last admission is one hour before closing, per the Paris Opera. Google Maps lists no hours for this place, so I cannot print a daily table here. My Palais Garnier opening hours and visitor guide covers the rest. The nearest metro station is Opéra, about 2 minutes on foot by my estimate, and the entrance for visits is on Rue Scribe, at the corner of Scribe and Auber streets. Details on lines are on the RATP site.

Which Ticket Fits You

For families, the official site lets children aged 12 and under in free on the self-guided visit, and a child aged 4 or under on the guided tour, so I’d check the free rules before buying a ticket for a young child. For couples, the perfume day is the unusual pick. For a short stop between the Louvre and a shopping street, the Manatour tour is the quickest at 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Choosing between Palais Garnier tickets comes down to guide, flexibility and how much of your day you want to give the building. The table is built from the listings.

Ticket Kind Price from Duration Areas Best for
Self-guided entry ticket entry ticket $28 1.5 hours Public areas, grand staircase, foyers, salons, exhibition First visit, most reviewed
Manatour guided tour tour with entry $28 45 minutes to 1.5 hours Public rooms on a guided route A guide, free cancellation
Perfume workshop and visit perfume day with entry $140 3 hours Self-guided visit of the staircase, salons and Grand Foyer Perfume fans
Workshop, visit and lunch perfume day with entry and lunch $291 4 hours Self-guided visit A long day with lunch

Near the Palais Garnier

The opera sits north of the Louvre in the 9th arrondissement. Walking times are my estimates from straight-line distance, multiplied by 1.3 at 4.8 km/h. The Tuileries Garden is about 16 minutes away, Place de la Concorde about 17, and the Louvre Pyramid about 20. Sacré-Cœur is about 30 minutes, Sainte-Chapelle 34, the Hôtel des Invalides 36 and the Eiffel Tower about 51. On the site I also compare Louvre Museum tickets, Eiffel Tower tickets, Moulin Rouge tickets and Musée d’Orsay tickets.

How I’d Choose

My short list of Palais Garnier tickets, by type of visitor:

Frequently asked questions

Can you visit Palais Garnier without a ticket?

No. The Paris Opera's official visit page says online booking is mandatory and that no visit tickets are sold on site. Children aged 12 and under and some other groups enter free, but those free tickets are still booked online and collected at the ticket office on the day. Buying Palais Garnier tickets ahead is the only route.

Can you buy Opera Garnier tickets at the door?

Not for a daytime visit, according to the official visit page, which says tickets are sold online and not on site. Performance tickets are a separate product sold by the Paris Opera. Of the four GetYourGuide options I compared, none is a performance ticket, so plan the visit before you arrive.

How much do Palais Garnier tickets cost?

Officially, a self-guided visit costs 25 euros for adults from outside the EEA and 15 euros for adults from France or the EEA, per operadeparis.fr. On GetYourGuide the self-guided ticket and the guided tour by Manatour are both $28, and two perfume-workshop combinations cost $140 and $291. Prices are in US dollars from the listings in November 2026.

Should I buy Palais Garnier tickets in advance?

Yes. The official page says sales open 30 days ahead and that visit tickets are not sold on site. The self-guided ticket I'd book is non-refundable, so choose the date carefully. The Manatour guided tour and both perfume combinations cancel free up to 24 hours before the start.

Which is better for opera, Opéra Bastille or Palais Garnier?

Per Wikipedia, the Paris Opera company opened the Opéra Bastille in 1989 and now uses the Palais Garnier mainly for ballet. I cannot tell you which has the better seats or sound. For seeing the building itself, the Palais Garnier is the one to visit, and the GetYourGuide products here are all visits, not performances.

Is the Palais Garnier worth visiting?

I think so, even if you never see a performance. The self-guided ticket has 4.6 stars from 19,792 reviews, and one reviewer called the building a bit of an overload for the senses. The catch is that rehearsals can close the auditorium, and no ticket guarantees you will see it.

Is the Palais Garnier open for visits during rehearsals?

The public areas stay open, but the auditorium can close without warning. The official page and the ticket listing both say that no ticket guarantees access to the performance hall. One reviewer reported the theatre was closed on their visit.
