Palace of Versailles Tickets – Palace of Versailles Skip-the-Line Guided Tour

The cheapest Palace of Versailles ticket on GetYourGuide is the $33 Passport entry ticket, and the most reviewed is the $78 skip-the-line guided tour with 4.7 stars from 2,621 reviews. The official site sells the Passport at 25 euros in the low season, per chateauversailles.fr. For a first visit I’d book the $78 guided tour.

I compared all 7 Palace of Versailles tickets and tours you can book on GetYourGuide right now, and every one of these Palace of Versailles tickets is listed in the comparison table above. Two are entry tickets with no guide, four are guided tours that include the palace entry, and one is a private tour with a driver. Prices are in US dollars and come from the listings, checked in November 2026. Versailles is a day trip from Paris, so I say below which of these products include transport and which do not. The links that open GetYourGuide are affiliate links (more on that on my about page).

Palace of Versailles Tickets at a Glance

Here is every one of the Palace of Versailles tickets in one table, so you can see where the money goes before the detail.

What Details
Ticket types 2 entry tickets, 4 guided tours with entry, 1 private tour with a driver
Price range $33 (Passport entry) to $318 (private four-hour tour with hotel pick-up)
Areas by type The entry tickets list the gardens; one also lists the Trianon estate and Queen’s Hamlet; the guided tours cover the palace and some add the gardens
Transport from Paris Included in 3 products (coach, private car, accompanied train); not included in the rest
Official ticket The Passport is 25 euros in the low season per chateauversailles.fr; a time slot is required

Address Place d’Armes, 78000 Versailles (per Google Maps)

What separates these Palace of Versailles tickets is the area you can enter and who gets you there. The palace holds the Hall of Mirrors and the royal apartments. The Trianon estate and the gardens are further out, and the Passport is the only official ticket that covers all of it.

Skip-the-Line Palace of Versailles Tickets

Skip-the-line Palace of Versailles tickets at this site mean a pre-booked slot with priority access, and the Extime Travel afternoon tour is the one that adds a coach ride from Paris. It costs $109, lasts 4.5 hours and has 4.0 stars from 106 reviews, which is the lowest rating among the guided tours with a meaningful review count. The listing includes the guided tour of the Royal Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, entrance with priority access, a free visit of the gardens and the Grandes Eaux show according to the calendar. You meet an Extime ambassador outside 6 Avenue du Dr Brouardel in Paris, and the languages are English, Spanish and Portuguese. Cancellation is free up to 3 days before.

“Versailles is beautiful. Tour was very informative and very interesting” – GetYourGuide review

Of all the Palace of Versailles tickets here, this one leaves out hotel pick-up and tips, so budget for the metro to the meeting point. If you want the palace without the coach, the next tour is a better deal.

Palace of Versailles Entry Tickets

Palace of Versailles entry tickets are the plain route in, and the one I’d treat carefully on GetYourGuide is the Touring Company’s reserved entry with an audio guide at $36. It is a ticket, not a tour: the listing includes timed admission, a digital audio guide, the Hall of Mirrors and Royal State Apartments, the Grand and Petit Trianon, the Queen’s Hamlet and the gardens, and the ticket arrives by WhatsApp and email. You go straight to the palace entrance with no meeting point. The rating is the problem: 2.1 stars from 7 reviews, a very small sample but a poor one. Reviewers mention a disrupted day and tickets that were refused at the entrance.

I do not recommend going through anyone but the official Palace web site.
— GetYourGuide reviewer

I can’t tell from seven reviews whether that is typical, so I’d put this one of the Palace of Versailles tickets below the official site. The cancellation terms are better than the official ones: free up to 24 hours before.

Palace of Versailles Tour

A Palace of Versailles tour is what I’d book for a first visit, because the palace is hard to read without a guide and the most-reviewed listing makes it simple. The skip-the-line guided tour from GetYourGuide France costs $78, scores 4.7 from 2,621 reviews and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, with 90 minutes of guiding inside the palace. It runs in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese and Japanese. You check in at the GetYourGuide shop at 10 Avenue du Général de Gaulle in Versailles, not at the palace gates, and your guide hands over the tickets there.

Among the Palace of Versailles tickets, this tour is not a day trip from Paris: transfers are listed as not included, so you pay your own train. The listing says to add 30 minutes for ticketing and the security check, and that after the tour you can stay in the palace until closing. Gardens are included from November to March with all options; from April to October the garden access, with the musical fountain shows, and Marie Antoinette’s Estate come with the All Access option only.

“Our guide was clear and knowledgeable. Easy to follow.” – GetYourGuide review
Our guide was clear and knowledgeable. Easy to follow.
— GetYourGuide reviewer

The praise across the reviews I read goes to the guides’ knowledge, as with this one, and not to the logistics. I compare every guided tour on my Palace of Versailles tours page.

Palace of Versailles Price

The Palace of Versailles price depends on which of the Palace of Versailles tickets you pick, and the official page is the baseline. The Passport, which includes the Palace, the Trianon, temporary exhibitions and the gardens, is listed at 25 euros in the low season, according to the official tickets page. The Trianon estate alone is 15 euros, or 12 reduced, and guided tours cost 10 to 16 euros on top of admission. The Passport is non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

On GetYourGuide, the price of Palace of Versailles tickets runs from $33 for a Passport entry ticket to $318 for the private tour. In between are the $36 audio-guide ticket, the $78 and $109 group tours, the $150 gardens walk and the $205 half-day tour. I have not converted euros to dollars, because the rate moves, so compare each price in its own currency and read the extras on each listing.

The last card in this section is the one I can only call a leftover. Red Cardinal Voyages sells a two-hour guided walk of the gardens for $150, and the listing says the palace is not included. That makes it the most expensive way to see the least, unless you specifically want a garden guide.

Palace of Versailles Reviews

Palace of Versailles reviews on GetYourGuide are strongest for the group tour from GetYourGuide France, with 4.7 stars from 2,621 reviews, and weakest for the Touring Company ticket at 2.1 from 7. The Extime coach tour sits at 4.0 from 106, and four products have no rating yet. Google Maps gives the palace itself 4.6 stars from 172,338 reviews, so the building is not the issue when a ticket scores low. The product is.

Of the Palace of Versailles tickets I compared, the private tour in this section has no ratings yet, so read it as a premium option on trust in the operator. VENETS charges $318 for four hours with a private guide, hotel round-trip pick-up and drop-off, a driver and a vehicle with Wi-Fi, admission to the Château, the gardens and a guided visit of the Versailles local market. Languages are French and Russian. The listing has no meeting point because the driver collects you, and you can cancel up to 24 hours before.

Palace of Versailles Tickets Official Website

The official website for Palace of Versailles tickets is chateauversailles.fr, the site of the palace itself. It sells the Passport at 25 euros in the low season, a Passport with a virtual reality experience at 32 euros, the Estate of Trianon ticket at 15 euros and the VR experience alone at 7 euros. The page says to buy the Passport among its Palace of Versailles tickets if you want the whole estate in one day, because it is the only ticket that guarantees Palace entry along with the full estate.

Two rules matter when you buy Palace of Versailles tickets directly. Every visitor must book a Palace time slot, and the page says entry within half an hour of the slot is only guaranteed for online tickets. The Palace closes at 5:30 pm with last entry at 4:45 pm, and the last schedule does not allow a full tour. For tickets for the Palace of Versailles I would buy the official Passport when I want plain entry on a date I know, and use GetYourGuide when I want a guide, transport from Paris or a cancellation window. I couldn’t check live availability, so I won’t claim the official slots are sold out on any date.

Palace of Versailles Tickets for Students

Palace of Versailles tickets for students are free for some students and not for others, and the rule is about age and residence, not the student card. The official site says the Palace and Trianon are free for visitors under 18, or under 26 residing in the EU, and that these visitors must still book a time slot online. Under-10s are free for guided tours, and children under 5 enter the gardens free during the fountain shows.

If you are a student outside the EU, or 26 or over, you pay the normal fare for Palace of Versailles tickets. In that case the cheapest route I found is the $33 Passport entry from italypasstours. The product I attach here is a different thing: the Charming Tours half-day tour at $205 is English-only, lasts about 3 hours and includes skip-the-line entry to the palace and gardens, an expert guide, headsets and accompanied train transport from central Paris. It meets at 1 Rue de la Convention in Paris. It has no ratings yet, so it is a leftover in this section, and I’d only pick it if you want someone to handle the train.

Palace of Versailles Garden Entry

Palace of Versailles garden entry changes with the season. According to the official plan your visit page, the park and gardens are free from November to March, and from April to October the gardens are charged Tuesday to Sunday, including on fountain show days. The gardens open at 8 am and the Trianon estate at noon. Today is 7 November, so the garden access on a visit this month is free.

Of the Palace of Versailles tickets I compared, the italypasstours Passport entry at $33 is the garden-friendly choice in the product set. It lists the palace, the gardens and a self-guided experience, with no live guide, food or transport. You go directly to Gate A, and the duration is given as 1 day, meaning you set the pace. The listing has no rating, so I’d treat it as the budget alternative rather than a recommended pick.

Is Palace of Versailles Worth Visiting

Yes, and Palace of Versailles tickets are worth buying if you want to see the Hall of Mirrors and the royal apartments, and I would not go only for the gardens in winter. The palace was a royal residence of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI, and according to Wikipedia it covers about 63,154 square metres with roughly 2,300 rooms. The park is 815 hectares today, of which 93 hectares are formal gardens. Google Maps gives it 4.6 stars from 172,338 reviews.

The cost beyond the price of Palace of Versailles tickets is time. The day trip from Paris takes most of a day once you add the journey, the security queue and the palace. The Wikipedia article calls the estate one of the most visited sites in Europe and links it to debates about overtourism, so expect crowds. I’d go for a morning slot, and I’d book a guide if I did not know the history.

Why Is the Palace of Versailles Important

The Palace of Versailles is important because it was the seat of the French monarchy and is considered a masterpiece of French classical architecture. Louis XIV built it to glorify the monarchy, and the king, the court and the government lived there permanently from 6 May 1682 to 6 October 1789, apart from the Regency years, per Wikipedia. The Hall of Mirrors was added between 1678 and 1684 under Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and the Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended the First World War, was signed there in June 1919.

UNESCO listed the Chateau and Park of Versailles as a World Heritage Site in 1979, under criteria i, ii and vi, according to the UNESCO World Heritage listing. Wikidata gives 1661 as the opening year and Louis Le Vau as the architect.

The Palace of Versailles is a chateau and historic monument in Versailles in the Yvelines department of France, southwest of Paris.
— Wikipedia

Opening Hours and Getting There

The palace is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, and closed on Mondays, per both Google Maps and the official site, which also lists 25 December, 1 January and 1 May as closures. Last entry is 4:45 pm. I put the full hours table, the best time to go and the route from Paris in my Palace of Versailles opening hours and visitor guide.

Near Palace of Versailles

My Google Maps data for this page holds no sights in the town of Versailles itself, so I won’t invent walking times to places I can’t check. What it does hold are the central Paris landmarks people combine with Versailles on a trip, and they are not near: the Eiffel Tower is about 14 km away in a straight line, the Arc de Triomphe about 15 km, Place de la Concorde about 16 km and Notre-Dame about 18 km. These are straight-line distances, not travel times, and you will need transport between Versailles and Paris.

If you pair the palace with another sight, I compare the Eiffel Tower tickets on this site, and for a longer day out of Paris there are the Disneyland Paris tickets. The coach, train and private-car Palace of Versailles tickets above all start in Paris, so they fit these combinations best.

How I’d Choose

Frequently asked questions

Do you need tickets to see the Palace of Versailles?

Yes for the palace itself. The official site says every visitor must book a time slot for the Palace, and that entry within half an hour of the slot is only guaranteed for tickets bought online. The park and gardens are free from November to March, but charged Tuesday to Sunday from April to October.

How much are Palace of Versailles tickets?

The official Passport, which covers the Palace, Trianon and the gardens, is listed at 25 euros in the low season. On GetYourGuide the options I compared run from $33 for a passport entry ticket to $318 for a private four-hour tour. Check the official ticketing page for the price on your date.

How long does it take to tour Versailles?

The guided palace visit on the most-reviewed tour lasts 90 minutes, and the listing tells you to add 30 minutes for ticketing and security. The afternoon coach tour from Paris takes 4.5 hours in total. If you want the palace, gardens and Trianon in one day, I'd plan on most of it.

Is it better to go to Versailles in the morning or afternoon?

The palace opens at 9 am and closes at 5:30 pm, with last entry at 4:45 pm per the official site, which warns that the last slot does not allow a full visit. The Trianon estate only opens at noon. For the palace I'd take a morning slot, and I'd treat afternoon tours as a way to see less of it.

Can you wear jeans to Versailles?

I found no dress code on the official pages I read, so nothing there bans jeans. What the official site does state is a bag limit: baggage above 55 x 35 x 25 cm is not admitted, and every bag is checked on entry. Check the official practical information page for current rules.

Which is better, Louvre or Versailles?

They are different days out. Versailles is a royal residence with the Hall of Mirrors and 815 hectares of park, 93 of them formal gardens, per Wikipedia. The Louvre is a museum in central Paris. Versailles needs transport and several hours, so I'd pick it if the palace and gardens interest you most.

Is Palace of Versailles free for students?

Not for every student. The official site says the Palace and Trianon are free for visitors under 18, or under 26 residing in the EU, and these visitors must still book a time slot. A student over 26 or outside the EU pays the normal fare, so check your age and residence.

Is it worth buying Palace of Versailles tickets from a reseller?

It depends on what you need. A reseller product adds a guide, transport from Paris or a reserved time slot, and several of those I compared have 24-hour free cancellation. The official Passport is non-refundable. I'd go to the official site first for plain entry and book a tour when I want the guide.
