General entry to the Natural History Museum is free, so Natural History Museum London tickets on GetYourGuide are guided tours and audio guides, not entry fees. The cheapest is $7 and the most reviewed has 367 reviews at 4.1 stars. The official site, nhm.ac.uk, says the galleries are free. For a first visit I’d book a live small-group tour.

Natural History Museum Tour + Reserved Entry & Audio
Let me be plain about what Natural History Museum London tickets are on this site. I compared all 10 Natural History Museum London tickets and tours you can book on GetYourGuide right now. Every one is a tour with museum entry attached or an audio product with a reserved slot, and not one of them is a plain paid admission, because there is no paid admission to the permanent galleries. Prices are in US dollars from the listings, checked in November 2026. The links that open GetYourGuide are affiliate links (more on that on my about page), and I’d still tell you to save your money if the free visit is all you need.

Natural History Museum London Tickets and Prices
Natural History Museum London tickets and prices run from $7 to $172, and the two top-rated listings sit at opposite ends of that range. The private tour from DS Tours London costs $172, scores 4.9 from 70 reviews and lasts 2 hours. It includes skip-the-line entry, a private guide, the earthquake simulator and interactive experiments, and it runs in Italian or English. Reviewers describe a guide who adapted the visit to an 8-year-old and answered questions about London in general. The listing says the meeting point is the bus stop between the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum on Exhibition Road, and you can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

“Damiano was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. We had a great time!” – GetYourGuide review
The cheaper way to a good guide among Natural History Museum London tickets is the walking tour from Golden Tours, but I would be careful with it. It costs $40 for two hours and the inclusions list only a guided tour. It is rated 2.7 from 48 reviews, and one reviewer wrote that they could not get into the museum with the ticket and could not find the guide. The listing describes a route through the dinosaur, mammal, marine life, human evolution and earth sciences galleries and finishes at the museum cafe and gift shop. I would pick a better-reviewed small group for the same money.

“Really enjoyed the tour! Very thorough and knowledgable! Joe was great!” – GetYourGuide review
If you are travelling as a group, the totals for Natural History Museum London tickets matter more than the per-person price, so here is the calculator for any ticket in this comparison.

Prices are the lowest per-person prices on GetYourGuide when I last checked; the final price depends on the date, time slot and age.
The official page does not list the prices of paid exhibitions, which sit outside these Natural History Museum London tickets, so I can’t tell you what those cost. What I can say is that none of the listings I compared include temporary exhibitions: the private tour, the walking tour, the 2.5-hour tour and the audio tour all list them as not included.
Skip-the-Line Natural History Museum London Tickets
Skip-the-line Natural History Museum London tickets are worth a careful read, because the entry itself is free. What a paid listing can offer is a faster route past the queue at busy times. The entry ticket and guided tour from UTG Experience London costs $72 and lasts 1 hour. Its inclusions are a guide, a reservation ticket and headsets to hear the guide if needed. It is rated 3.8 from 213 reviews, which is a mixed score for the price. The meeting point is on Exhibition Road at the metal plate marked The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, reached from the South Kensington Tube exit towards the museum.

“Our guide gave us an excellent view into the wealth of things to see in the museum. We were able to know what we might want to go back and see later. Our guide was also kind and knowledgeable.” – GetYourGuide review
Reviewers of this one praise the guides for answering questions and for helping them choose what to come back to see later. That is a fair use of an hour if you plan to wander on your own afterwards. If a queue is your only worry, Natural History Museum London tickets are not the answer: the official free entry ticket does the same job at no cost, and I’d try that before paying $72.
Natural History Museum London Tour
A Natural History Museum London tour is the product that earns its price, and the two cards in this section are the ones that did not fit the other sections, so I am describing them honestly. The first is the 2.5-hour guided tour from Babylon Tours London at $117, rated 4.9 from 96 reviews. The guide is described as a professional art historian, and the options are private or semi-private. The route in the listing runs from Sophie the Stegosaurus and a dodo skeleton to the Archaeopteryx, the Cursed Amethyst, a giant sequoia slice and the Pompeii casts. The inclusions do not list a museum ticket, which is fine because entry is free, and temporary exhibits and gratuities are not included. Reviewers name individual guides and say the tour felt deliberate rather than rushed.

“Very knowledgeable and helpful guide. Matilda was great!” – GetYourGuide review
The second of these Natural History Museum London tickets is the 2.5-hour tour from The Great Weekender at $92, rated 4.4 from just 12 reviews. The listing calls it a private tour of the main highlights. A reviewer on their honeymoon said they were the only group on it. Twelve reviews is too few to build a case on, so I treat this one as a promising unknown.

“Sasha was an excellent guide and engaged everyone in the family. We enjoyed it throoughly” – GetYourGuide review
I compare every guided tour on my Natural History Museum London tours page. Natural History Museum London tickets for a tour differ mostly in length and group size. A 2.5-hour tour at $117 or $92 buys a deeper route than the 1-hour options, and neither lists the extras that the $172 private tour includes.
Natural History Museum London Price
The Natural History Museum London price for general entry is zero, and the question behind the search is usually what the paid extras cost. The card here is a leftover that makes the point neatly: the reserved entry and audio tour from WeGoTrip at $9. The listing is open about it. It says the entrance to the museum is free and that you are paying for a self-guided audio tour, a Hyde Park walking route and a reserved free timed entry. A GBP 1 donation to the museum is included. It is rated 3.4 from 32 reviews, and the reviews are a warning. One reviewer wrote that no one recognised their tickets and they never got in, and another said the audio guide would not download. A third, writing in Swedish, said the activity turned out to be free and they were refunded. Read those as a reminder to download the app before you leave the hotel.

“Aktiviteten visade sig vara gratis. Vi hade betalt för falska biljetter. Vi fick pengarna tillbaka men är ändå missnöjda!” – GetYourGuide review
If you want to contribute to the museum, the official site is the place to do it directly. I haven’t verified a suggested donation amount, so I won’t quote one.
Natural History Museum London Review
My review of the Natural History Museum London tickets I looked at is that the group guided tour is where the money is best spent. The Strabo tour with priority entry costs $33, lasts 1.5 hours and meets outside the Embassy of Venezuela on Cromwell Road, opposite the museum. It includes entrance, access to the permanent exhibitions and a guide, and it lists special exhibitions as not included. Its score is 3.4 from 339 reviews, which is lower than I would like, but reviewers praise the guide for being friendly with kids and leaving time for questions. The listing describes the blue whale skeleton in Hintze Hall, the dinosaurs, the earthquake simulator and the Darwin Centre.

“Patrick was puntual, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating with the group. Delightful!” – GetYourGuide review
For the museum itself, rather than the Natural History Museum London tickets, Google Maps shows 4.6 stars from 41,214 reviews, which is a better guide to the visit than any single tour score.
Natural History Museum London Admission
Natural History Museum London admission is free, so the question here is what a priority-entry listing adds on top. The small-group tour from Best Tours London costs $39, runs 2 hours and is rated 5.0 from 27 reviews. Its inclusions are the guide, a small-group format and entrance tickets with a priority timeslot, and it runs in English or Italian. The listing says the tickets are shared the day before, and the meeting point is inside the museum on the left of Hintze Hall, next to the giraffe display, where the guide holds a yellow flag. With 27 reviews the perfect score is thin evidence, but the reviews I read mostly name the same guide and describe a knowledgeable, enthusiastic tour.

I like this one among the Natural History Museum London tickets because the meeting point is inside the building, which removes the chance of missing your guide on Exhibition Road.
Natural History Museum London Tickets Online
Natural History Museum London tickets online come in two forms: the free reserved slot you book with the museum, and paid products that bundle a slot with something extra. The one in my set that sits at the cheapest point is the Vox City Walks tour at $7. It has the most reviews of anything here, 367, and scores 4.1. It includes reserved entry, a live 40-minute English-language tour of the exterior and a museum introduction, and a digital map and audio guide app in seven languages: English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean and Spanish. It does not include a guided tour of the exhibits, priority entry or special exhibitions, and you bring your own headphones and phone. “The Historical Museum in London is excellent, outstanding!” – GetYourGuide review
The listing’s duration is 30 minutes but its inclusions say a 40-minute tour, so check the times at checkout. My view is that these Natural History Museum London tickets are a sensible choice for non-English speakers, because the audio commentary covers seven languages.
Natural History Museum London Tickets Night
I found no night tickets for the Natural History Museum. Google Maps shows 10 am to 5:50 pm every day, the official site says the museum is open daily 10:00 to 17:50 with last entry at 17:30, and none of the 10 listings I compared runs after dark. I can’t tell you about evening events because the pages I read did not mention any, so check the museum’s own events listings for anything after hours. In practice that means the museum is a daytime visit. In winter the sun sets as early as 15:51 in December and 16:11 in November per Open-Meteo data for 2025, so you will leave in the dark in the cold months, but you will not be inside after closing.
Is Natural History Museum London Worth Visiting
Natural History Museum London is worth visiting if you have even a few hours, and Natural History Museum London tickets as paid extras are worth it only for the right visitor. It is a Victorian building by Alfred Waterhouse that opened in 1881 per Wikidata, and it is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road according to Wikipedia. Wikidata gives 1,571,413 visitors in 2021, a year affected by the pandemic, so the pre-closure number was higher. The listings describe more than 20 galleries and a blue whale skeleton about 25 metres long suspended in Hintze Hall.
The card in this section is the dinosaur-themed Ancient Monsters tour from Vox Londoners at $27, rated 4.5 from 37 reviews. It includes skip-the-line access, a Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus, Diplodocus and other prehistoric giants, complimentary coffee or tea, a free digital dinosaur booklet and phone access to your guide afterwards. The listing is confusing on length: it says 1.5 hours in the duration field but calls the experience a 3-hour expedition in its description, and a reviewer called it just about an hour. Check the exact length before you book.

Opening Hours and Getting There
The museum opens daily 10:00 to 17:50 with last entry at 17:30 per the official visit page, and it closes on 24, 25 and 26 December. Near the Natural History Museum
The museum is in South Kensington, and most of the big sights are a Tube ride away, not a stroll. The walking times below are my estimates from straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3 at 4.8 km/h. The Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are neighbours on Exhibition Road per Wikipedia, but they are not in my data, so I can’t give you a walking time. Buckingham Palace is about 40 minutes on foot, and Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and Big Ben are each close to an hour. The London Eye is about 65 minutes, so take the Tube. The Tower of London is the furthest, at about two hours on foot, which is why I’d go by Tube or bus after you have used your Natural History Museum London tickets.
Cheapest Natural History Museum London tickets: the $7 Vox City Walks tour with reserved entry and a seven-language audio guide, or just the free official ticket.
Best value among Natural History Museum London tickets with a guide: the $33 Strabo tour with priority entry, or the $39 small-group tour if you want 2 hours.
Families with dinosaur fans: the $27 Ancient Monsters tour, or the $172 private tour if you want a guide who adapts to the children.
Most depth: the $117 Babylon Tours London tour, 4.9 from 96 reviews.
No queue: the free reserved entry on the official site first, and a priority listing only if you want a guide as well.
Night visit: none exists in my set, because the museum closes at 17:50.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Natural History Museum in London free?+
Yes. The official site says the galleries are free to explore, and the same page says paid exhibitions and events are ticketed separately. Anything you buy on GetYourGuide for the permanent galleries is therefore a guide, an audio tour or a convenience, not the price of getting in.
Do I need to book Natural History Museum London tickets?+
Not to get in, but the official site says weekends and school holidays can be busy and you may have to queue. To guarantee entry you can become a member, book a free entry ticket or buy a ticket to an exhibition or event. I'd book the free ticket for a weekend or holiday visit.
How much are Natural History Museum London tickets on GetYourGuide?+
The 10 products I compared run from $7 for a short outdoor tour with reserved entry and an audio guide to $172 for a private two-hour tour. The cheapest live guided tours are $27 to $40. All prices are in US dollars from the listings in November 2026.
What is the best guided tour of the Natural History Museum?+
On ratings, the private tour at $172 and the 2.5-hour guided tour at $117 both score 4.9, from 70 and 96 reviews. For a lower price, the two-hour small-group tour at $39 scores 5.0 but from only 27 reviews, so I'd treat that score with care.
How long do I need at the Natural History Museum in London?+
The guided tours I compared run 1 to 2.5 hours and cover the highlights only. The museum is large, with more than 20 galleries according to the listings, so I'd allow 2 to 3 hours for a first visit and longer if you want the dinosaurs and the minerals unhurried. That is my judgement, not an official figure.
Can I just turn up at the Natural History Museum?+
Yes, the galleries are free and the museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:50 per the official site, with last entry at 17:30. On a quiet weekday you can walk in. At weekends and in school holidays I'd book a free entry ticket first.
Is the Natural History Museum open on Christmas?+
No. The official visit page lists the museum as closed on 24, 25 and 26 December. Check the page for any other closure on the date you plan to go.
Is the Natural History Museum worth visiting?+
I think so, especially for families and anyone who likes dinosaurs. It has 4.6 stars on Google Maps from 41,214 reviews, it is free to enter, and the building itself is a Victorian landmark opened in 1881 per Wikidata. If you only have an hour, a guided highlights tour is the efficient way in.
