Castel Sant'Angelo Tickets – Castel Sant'Angelo Entry Ticket & Digital Audioguide

The cheapest Castel Sant’Angelo ticket on GetYourGuide is the $20 Crown Tours entry with a digital audio guide, which is also the most-reviewed one: 4.6 stars from 9,356 reviews. Live-guided tours run $55 to $71. The museum sells its own tickets too, through CoopCulture, which does not show a price on its Castel Sant’Angelo page, so I’d book the Crown Tours ticket for a plain visit and Loving Rome at $60 if you want a guide.

I compared all 10 Castel Sant’Angelo tickets and tours you can book on GetYourGuide right now. Five are entry tickets with an audio guide or app (one names a panoramic terrace pass), three are live-guided tours and two are combos with the Passetto di Borgo or optional extras. Prices are in US dollars, taken from the listings in November 2026. The buttons that open GetYourGuide are affiliate links, explained on my about page.

Almost all of the price gap between Castel Sant’Angelo tickets comes from the guide. The two cheapest Castel Sant’Angelo tickets are the same product type, an entry with audio, while the live-guided tours cost three times as much. The sections below take them in turn.

What Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets Open

The ticket type matters less for Castel Sant’Angelo tickets than at the Colosseum, because the museum itself is one building. Every listing opens the interior: per the product descriptions, five floors with a collection of weapons and Renaissance frescoes, the papal rooms, the courtyards and the ramparts, with the terrace at the top. The differences are small and specific. The Tourss ticket at $21 is the only entry listing that names the panoramic terrace in its inclusions. The Loving Rome description mentions the Olearie, the historical prisons and the theatre of Clement VII. The Touristation ticket is the only one that reserves the Passetto di Borgo, the covered corridor Wikipedia says Pope Nicholas III used to link the castle with Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Official Ticket or GetYourGuide

The museum sells tickets through its own booking platform, and its official website is castelsantangelo.beniculturali.it. I could not open it from here, so I can’t quote its fee or say whether it is sold out for a given date. What the resellers add is concrete: an audio guide on your phone, a meeting point with staff in the park by the bridge, a live guide on the pricier tours, and free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead on most of them. If all you need is a plain entry, compare the official Castel Sant’Angelo tickets with the $20 Crown Tours ticket before you pay, because an audio guide may be the only difference.

Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets and Prices

Castel Sant’Angelo tickets and prices fall into three bands: $20 to $25 for an entry ticket with an audio guide, $40 to $45 for a few mixed options, and $55 to $71 when a guide walks you round. The entry ticket I’d start with at $25 is the GetYourGuide ticket with an audio app. It holds 4.3 stars from 6,181 reviews, covers the five floors with weapons rooms and Renaissance frescoes, and is non-refundable. The listing says the audio guide is digital, on your own phone, and that it does not replace an official guide. One reviewer calls it a super convenient way to bypass the ticket office line.

For a few dollars less, the Crown Tours ticket at $20 is the same idea, and I’d check it first. It has 9,356 reviews at 4.6 and cancels free up to 24 hours before.

Skip-the-Line Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets

Skip-the-line Castel Sant’Angelo tickets are, in practice, tickets you bought before you arrived: the listings describe a reserved or swift entrance rather than a separate priority lane, and I found no official statement about one. The Loving Rome guided tour at $60 is the one I’d choose if you want a reserved entrance plus a person who explains the castle. It is a one-hour tour in English that includes access, a guide and headsets if needed. The description promises areas not normally open to the public, naming the Olearie, the historical prisons and the theatre of Clement VII.

Castel Sant’angelo Tour

A Castel Sant’angelo tour comes in two forms here: a live guide, or an audio tour you run yourself. The card below is the second kind, whatever the card label might suggest: the Crown Tours entry ticket at $20 states in its not-included list that a guided tour is not part of it. What you get is the entry and a smartphone audio guide app, plus staff at the meeting point in the park next to the bridge, where coordinators wear purple Crown Tours shirts. It lasts 2 hours.

“Excellent experience all around. Very easy to access!” – GetYourGuide review

If you want a live guide, the options are the Loving Rome tour above, the small-group tour in the next section and the Doooing tour in the worth-it section, and I compare every guided tour on my Castel Sant’Angelo tours page. Reviewers of the Crown ticket like the view from the top and the cafe, and one found the app instructions easy but suggests downloading the app before you arrive.

Castel St Angelo Tickets

People searching for Castel St Angelo tickets are usually after the same museum, so the same Castel Sant’Angelo tickets apply. The one that I’d pick when a group wants a real guide is the City Walkers small-group tour at $71. It is the most expensive of the ten, rated 4.7 from 254 reviews, and runs 2 hours in French, English, Italian and Spanish. The listing states that the entry is worth 16 euros for adults and nothing under 18, so with Castel Sant’Angelo tickets at this level the guiding is roughly the other $50 or so. It lists the five floors and the terrace, and a reviewer praises a guide who gave little-known insights.

Is Castel Sant’Angelo Free

Castel Sant’Angelo is not free on an ordinary day. The booking platform that sells the official Castel Sant’Angelo tickets and runs the museum’s tickets, CoopCulture, says free Sundays and other free-admission days are not reserved online: you queue at the ticket office for a free ticket that needs no personal data. The page does not list which dates are free, so check it for your day. The City Walkers listing also states that visitors under 18 enter free.

The nearest thing to a bargain among paid Castel Sant’Angelo tickets is the $21 Tourss panoramic terrace ticket. It includes entry, access to the panoramic terrace, a multilingual audio guide in nine languages, and a ticket collection service at the meeting point. It is rated 4.2 from 108 reviews. The honest caveat comes from a reviewer who found the three audio clips of 12 minutes total thin for a price above $50, so the add-ons at checkout matter.

Is Castel Sant’Angelo Worth It

Castel Sant’Angelo is worth it for me if you are already visiting the Vatican side of Rome, and the guided Doooing tour at $55 is the strongest argument for it. It has the highest rating of the live-guided tours, 4.8 from 165 reviews, runs 2 hours, and comes in English, Italian and Spanish. The tour tells the legend of the Archangel Michael appearing over the tomb of Hadrian, and the guide meets you at the main entrance holding a blue flag with the Doooing logo. Reviewers name their guides and praise how they brought the history to life.

Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets and the Roma Pass

I found no product on GetYourGuide that sells or uses a Roma Pass for Castel Sant’Angelo, and the CoopCulture page does not mention the Roma Pass, so ask the Roma Pass desk before you rely on it. What I did find that comes closest to a combo is the Touristation ticket at $55: reserved entrance to both the Passetto di Borgo and the castle, an Ancient Rome multimedia video and assistance at the meeting point. An option adds a guided Passetto tour or a Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel skip-the-line ticket.

“Very nice tour. It was challenging to find our guide when we got there” – GetYourGuide review

Reviewers say it is an access ticket rather than a guide, though the escort gave commentary. One adds that the guide was hard to find on arrival.

This was a really neat tour. We got to see some special places in the castle not available with a regular ticket.

Student and Discount Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets

The CoopCulture page lists no percentage discounts, so I won’t quote a student one. The reduced and free categories are published by the museum, and the City Walkers listing states under-18 free. Among GetYourGuide products, none is priced as a student ticket. The one on this heading is the Vivicos International Travel listing at $40, a leftover that does not match the topic. It sells a ticket and an audio guide as options, with no live guide, and the alternative is a ghost tour that starts from the bridge. Tickets are sent to your phone by WhatsApp, email or iMessage, and last-minute bookings are accepted.

Is Castel Sant’Angelo Worth Visiting

Visiting is worth it, but I’d choose the product carefully, and the one on this heading is the weakest of the ten. The Show Me Italy Castel Sant’Angelo tickets and tours listing at $43 is rated 2.8 from only 19 reviews. It sells an entry ticket and digital audio guide, with options for a guided Passetto di Borgo and Castel Sant’Angelo tour or a semi-private sunset tour with aperitivo. Among the reviews of these Castel Sant’Angelo tickets is a complaint that a Passetto date was changed and unavailable on site, another about queueing to collect audio devices, and one about a date shown as available that did not run. I would pick other Castel Sant’Angelo tickets unless you want that sunset aperitivo option.

Is Castel Sant’Angelo Worth Seeing

Castel Sant’Angelo is worth seeing for the layers: Hadrian’s mausoleum, then a fortress, a prison and a papal residence, as Wikipedia tells it. The Capriotti entry ticket with an audio guide at $45 is the final product, rated a perfect 5.0, but from just 2 reviews, so it tells you little. It includes the entry ticket and an audio guide, not a tour guide, takes 2 hours, and the meeting point is in front of the entrance where a staff member holds a red flag with the Saints Tour logo. I’d choose the $20 or $25 Castel Sant’Angelo ticket instead.

Opening Hours and Getting There

Per Google Maps, Castel Sant’Angelo is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 7:30 pm and closed on Monday. The nearest metro stations are Lepanto and Ottaviano, each about 1 km away, which I estimate at 15 to 16 minutes on foot; most visitors walk from Saint Peter’s Square over the Ponte Sant’Angelo. Last entry (6:30 pm per CoopCulture), closing days and how to get there, with the rest of what you need before buying Castel Sant’Angelo tickets, are on my Castel Sant’Angelo opening hours and visitor guide.

Near Castel Sant’Angelo

Distances are straight-line from Google Maps coordinates; the walking times are my estimate at 4.8 km/h with a 1.3 detour factor. Piazza Navona is closest at about 0.7 km and 12 minutes. Saint Peter’s Basilica and the Pantheon are roughly 1 km away, 16 to 17 minutes; the Basilica pairs with the Vatican Museums tickets and the Sistine Chapel tickets, and I have a page on the Pantheon tickets. The Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are about 1.4 km (23 minutes), Piazza Venezia 1.6 km (25 minutes), and the Mouth of Truth and Roman Forum 2.1 km (34 minutes). The Colosseum tickets are 2.6 km away, about 42 minutes on foot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Castel Sant'Angelo cost?

On GetYourGuide the entry tickets start at $20 for the Crown Tours ticket with a digital audio guide and $25 for the GetYourGuide entry ticket with an audio app. Live-guided tours cost $55 to $71. One listing states the entry component at 16 euros for adults and free under 18, but I could not load the museum's own price page, so check the official site for the current fee.

Can you go inside Castel Sant'Angelo?

Yes. It is a national museum, and every ticket I compared opens the interior: the five floors of the castle, the papal apartments, the ramparts and the terrace. Google Maps lists it open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 am to 7:30 pm, and closed on Mondays.

What is special about Castel Sant'Angelo?

It started as the tomb of Emperor Hadrian, built between 134 and 139 AD, then became a papal fortress, a prison and finally a museum. Wikipedia notes it was once the tallest building in Rome. The covered Passetto di Borgo corridor still links it to the Vatican.

How long does it take to walk through Castel Sant'Angelo?

The listings give 1 hour for the Loving Rome guided tour, 1.5 hours for the terrace ticket and 2 hours for the audio-guide entry tickets and the small-group tour. I'd allow two hours if you want the terrace and the weapons rooms at your own pace.

Is it worth going inside Castel St. Angelo?

I think so if you like layered history and the view. The most-reviewed ticket holds 4.6 stars from 9,356 reviews, and reviewers keep mentioning the view from the top. If you only want the photo of the bridge and the angel, the outside is free.

Should I buy Castel Sant'Angelo tickets in advance?

I would, particularly for a morning or weekend visit. A reviewer of the $25 ticket calls it a convenient way to bypass the ticket office line, and the listings of the tours include a reserved entrance. The cheapest options cancel up to 24 hours ahead, but two are non-refundable.

What's the secret in Castel Sant'Angelo?

Most likely the Passetto di Borgo, the elevated corridor popes used to reach the castle from the Vatican. Wikipedia says Pope Nicholas III connected the two by this covered fortified passage. The $55 Touristation ticket adds a reserved Passetto entrance, and one reviewer says it shows places not available with a regular ticket.

How far is Vatican City from Castel Sant'Angelo?

Saint Peter's Basilica is about 1 km away in a straight line per Google Maps coordinates, which I estimate as a 17-minute walk. Ottaviano metro station is about the same distance.
