The Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours are simple: the Barcelona City Council lists the park as open every day from 07:00 until dusk, and I found no entrance fee. The zoo and other attractions in the grounds keep their own timetables. This guide covers the hours, the history, the cost, the nearest stations and the best time to go. For the paid extras, my Parc de la Ciutadella tickets page compares a $25 kids tour and a $100 photo session.

Parc de la Ciutadella Opening Hours

The Barcelona City Council page gives “de 07:00 h del matí fins al capvespre”, which means from seven in the morning until dusk, and it does not split the year into seasons. Google Maps lists the place as Ciutadella Park at Passeig de Picasso, 21, with a 4.6 rating from 78,695 reviews, but no weekly hours. Here is the week at a glance.

Day Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours
Monday 07:00 until dusk per the city council
Tuesday 07:00 until dusk
Wednesday 07:00 until dusk
Thursday 07:00 until dusk
Friday 07:00 until dusk
Saturday 07:00 until dusk
Sunday 07:00 until dusk

Dusk is not a clock time, so the practical closing hour changes with the season. In the Open-Meteo year in my files, the sunset averages about 17:22 in December, 17:31 in November, 18:57 in March, 21:03 in May and 21:26 in June, per Open-Meteo. I could not find a published closing time for each month, so check the council page before a late visit. Today is Saturday 7 November 2026 and I found no closure notice, so by the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours I found, it is open.

Parc de la Ciutadella Barcelona Opening Hours for the Zoo and Parliament

The Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours cover the grounds, but what stands inside it is not the same thing. The council page says the zoo shares the park’s grounds and that the former arsenal is the seat of the Parliament of Catalonia. Both keep their own hours, so the Parc de la Ciutadella Barcelona opening hours do not tell you when a building is open, and I could not load the zoo’s website, so I will not quote its timetable. Visit the Parliament of Catalonia site or the zoo’s own page for current times and any visits, and read Wikipedia’s Barcelona Zoo article for background.

Parc de la Ciutadella History

The park stands on a fortress. After Philip V’s army took Barcelona in 1714, he built a citadel to control the city, a project that displaced many residents of the La Ribera district, per Wikipedia. General Espartero bombarded the citadel in 1848, General Prim handed the remaining ground to the city in 1869, and Josep Fontserè began turning it into a park in 1872.

The Cascada Monumental was unveiled in 1881 and expanded to 1888, with a small contribution from a young Antoni Gaudí. The 1888 Universal Exposition reshaped the grounds, adding buildings such as the Castle of the Three Dragons, and the zoo opened in 1892. The park was designated a Spanish Cultural Heritage site on 21 December 1951. Seen against the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours, with the gates opening at seven, the history is a reason to start early, since it explains what you see: a military arsenal turned into a parliament, and a waterfall where the walls once stood.

Parc de la Ciutadella Cost and Entrance Fee

The short answer to the Parc de la Ciutadella cost question is nothing, as far as I found. The council page lists no entrance fee, and neither Google Maps nor Wikipedia shows one. That also answers the Ciutadella Park entrance fee question: there is no gate fee in the sources I checked, and I saw no ticket desk. The council does not state outright that the park is free, so this is my reading of what the page leaves out.

What costs money is separate. The council says visitors can rent rowboats on the lake, but I have no price. The zoo has its own tickets. The two GetYourGuide activities I compared are a 2-hour kids tour at $25 and a 45-minute private photo session at $100. Both include free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and I explain them on the tickets page.

Best Time to Visit Parc de la Ciutadella

I have no crowd data for the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours or for the park, because none of my sources publish it, so I will not name quiet hours. What I can give you is weather and light. In the Open-Meteo year, June had about 13.5 hours of sunshine and no rainy days, April 11.4 hours and 6 rainy days, May 12.9 hours and 10. March had 18 rainy days, December 14 and 6.3 hours of sunshine.

So whatever the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours say, I’d pick April to June, or early autumn, when the days are long and the lawns are green. A winter morning works too if you accept dusk before 17:30. The park opens at 07:00, so an early start gets you the waterfall with fewer people in the frame, which is common sense, not data.

How to Get to Parc de la Ciutadella

The nearest stations in my Google Maps data are Arc de Triomf, about 0.6 km from the park’s pin (roughly 10 minutes on foot), and Ciutadella Vila Olimpica at the same distance. Barceloneta is 0.7 km (12 minutes), Jaume I and Marina 0.8 km (13 minutes each). Walking times are estimates: straight-line distance times 1.3, at 4.8 km per hour. Wikipedia mentions the Arc de Triomf metro and Rodalies station beside the park. For lines, fares and works, check TMB.

On foot, the Cathedral of Barcelona is 0.9 km away, about 15 minutes, and Plaça de Catalunya 1.3 km, about 22 minutes. Casa Batlló is 1.8 km and the Sagrada Familia 2.0 km, so I’d use the metro. Compare tickets on my Casa Batlló and Sagrada Familia pages, or Picasso Museum tickets, whose museum is in the neighbouring part of the old town.

What to Know Before You Go

The Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours are the only rule I could source. I found no published rules for bikes, drones, dogs or picnics, so follow the signs at the gate you use. The park covers about 31 hectares, per Wikipedia, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The meeting point of the kids tour is in front of the park entrance by the Rius i Taulet monument, and the photographer for the private session waits in front of the Cascada Monumental.

If you want to see the zoo as well, plan it as a separate outing with its own ticket. If the park is your main goal, you are in the right place, and the full list of what I compared is on my Parc de la Ciutadella tickets page, together with every Parc de la Ciutadella ticket I found. Quick Planning Notes

The Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours are easy to remember, but they leave a few things to plan around. A few practical points tie the hours to a visit. Because the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours run to dusk, the same park can feel very different in July and in December: in my Open-Meteo data the June sunset averages 21:26 and the December one 17:22, which is a gap of more than four hours of usable light. An evening walk in summer is realistic; in winter, plan the waterfall and the lake for the morning or early afternoon.

If you are combining the park with the rest of the old town, start at the Arc de Triomf station side, 0.6 km away, and finish at the Cathedral, 0.9 km from the park’s pin. If you are arriving with children, the kids tour starts at the park entrance by the Rius i Taulet monument, so look up the exact meeting point on the listing before you go. Check the Parc de la Ciutadella opening hours again on the council page before a late evening visit. Plans change with weather, so book the activity only after checking the forecast and remember that cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
