Inside London Dungeon rooms you do not wander at your own pace. You walk through a sequence of live shows with a group, led by actors, which means a map of the London Dungeon is less about floor plans and more about knowing where the building sits and what the visit contains. If you have not chosen a ticket yet, my guide to tickets for the London Dungeon compares what you can book. Here I cover what is inside London Dungeon walls: the location, the order I would expect, and the practical limits.

London Dungeon Map: Building, Stations and Sights Around It

The map below shows the London Dungeon with the stations and landmarks within walking distance, from Google Maps data.

Before you go inside London Dungeon doors, note that the building is in the Riverside Building at County Hall, Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7PB, on the South Bank, and the London Eye is next door at about 0.09 km. Waterloo is the nearest station in my data, about 0.26 km away or 4 minutes on foot. Westminster is about 0.44 km and Big Ben about 0.45 km, both reached over Westminster Bridge, and Lambeth North is about 0.61 km. Those walking times are my estimates, from straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3 at 4.8 km/h, so allow a little longer on a busy bridge.

I looked for an official floor plan to link as the official map and could not find one: the pages I opened on thedungeons.com list the shows and link to practical guides, but show no plan of the rooms. The route below is therefore my reading of the visit from the official descriptions, and it is not a substitute for the directions of the staff on the day. If you plan the hours around your slot, my London Dungeon opening hours guide has the table.

The Route Through the London Dungeon

The official site does not publish a running order for inside London Dungeon, so I describe the stages you can count on rather than invent a sequence of rooms. Inside London Dungeon walls the experience is one guided walk with a ride in it, and I leave the times blank because the only figure the operator gives is the 75 minutes for the whole tour.

My route inside the London Dungeon
  1. Queue and admission areaPhotos allowed here
  2. Walk-through live showsPhotography not allowed
  3. Drop Dead: Drop RideOptional, subject to availability
  4. Exit and photo pointPhotos allowed again at the end

Queue and Admission Area

Your visit starts at the entrance in County Hall, where you show your ticket and join the line for your timed slot. The official FAQ puts queues at typically 10 to 30 minutes and up to 60 minutes at busier times, per the official FAQ. This is one of the two places where you may take photos, so it is the moment for a picture before the tour. Large luggage is the first thing to solve: the FAQ says suitcases and large hand luggage are not accepted and sends guests to left luggage at the London Eye ticket office or Waterloo station. Handbags and backpacks up to 30 litres are allowed, and the FAQ says there is no cloakroom.

The combo listing adds one detail for the Eye side of the day: it asks you to go to the standard entrance, queue A, 30 minutes before your booked London Eye timeslot.

“Amazing, since I book the activity at 10:00 I went to the dungeon museum. For the London I couldn’t log in with the same ticket I had to go to the customer care / service to get the printed ticket . Otherwise everything was prefect” – GetYourGuide review

The Live Shows

The walk-through is the core of the visit, and inside London Dungeon rooms the shows come first. The official pages name The Descent, Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot, Pest House and Curse of the Witch, and say there are more shows than they list on those pages. I could not confirm the exact count: one official page says 13 shows, another says 16, so I would not promise a number. Wikipedia describes the attraction as one that recreates gory and macabre historical events in a gallows humour style, using live actors, special effects and rides, per Wikipedia.

What to look for inside London Dungeon shows is the acting. Reviewers of the combo ticket praise the actors and the interactive side: one writes that the actors were out of this world, another that the family loved the acting. The official FAQ is clear that this is not a scare attraction or a horror maze, but an interactive theatrical experience, so expect to be spoken to and picked out from the group. Photography is not permitted at any time on the main tour, so keep your phone away until the end.

Guy Fawkes and the Moving Floors

Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot is one of the shows named on the official pages. The accessibility page adds a practical point about it: the floor moves in some areas, including Guy Fawkes and The Lift of Doom, per the accessibility guide. If you are unsteady on your feet, or bring someone who is, that is worth knowing before you book. The same page says there is one flight of stairs to the main entrance and two flights inside, 21 steps in total.

Drop Dead: Drop Ride

The ride is the one named attraction that has its own rules. The official FAQ says the minimum height for the Drop Dead Drop Ride is 1.4 metres, that it is not suitable for pregnant guests, people with heart conditions or pacemakers, back or neck complaints, broken limbs or photosensitive epilepsy, and that it is optional and subject to availability. Staff can show alternative routes, per the FAQ. Wheelchair users must be able to transfer unaided into and out of the ride seats, and the ride is not accessible to guests who cannot walk unaided or use stairs.

Leaving the London Dungeon and What Comes Next

The last stretch inside London Dungeon ends where the first began: at the end of the tour you are back in an area where photos are allowed again. The nearest accessible toilets at the exit are by the London Eye ticket office at ground level, per the accessibility guide, and the Eye is a few steps away. Many visitors pair the two, which is why the combo is the best-reviewed option I found.

If you want a different way to see what is inside London Dungeon grounds, the Dungeon is also sold with a city audio walk that adds a self-guided route outside the building.

Access, Age Rules and Bags Inside London Dungeon Rooms

The accessibility guide says a wheelchair lift is available, but only one wheelchair user is accommodated per hour, at quarter past each hour. You book the wheelchair timeslot in advance and speak to Front of House on arrival. The lift measures 94 cm by 146 cm, the wheelchair and user combined may weigh no more than 300 kg, and wheelchairs must be no wider than 69 cm. Mobility scooters cannot be accommodated. An accessible toilet is at the entrance to the tour.

On age for those going inside London Dungeon rooms, the official recommendation is 12 and over. Children aged 5 and over may enter at a parent’s or guardian’s discretion, under-5s are not admitted, and all guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. Check the official site before you go, since I could not see the full terms page.

How Much Time to Allow

Allow about two hours for everything inside London Dungeon halls and the queue: the tour lasts approximately 75 minutes, and the queue is on top of that. If you add the Eye, the Eye has its own timeslot, so the order of the two is fixed by your tickets. The wider day is easier to plan from my London Dungeon tickets comparison, and the home page lists the other London attractions I compare. For when to arrive, the opening hours guide has the times I could confirm and the ones I could not.

Frequently asked questions

What is inside the London Dungeon?

Inside the London Dungeon you walk through a series of live, actor-led shows set in dark moments of London history, plus a drop ride. The official site names The Descent, Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot, Pest House, Curse of the Witch and Drop Dead: Drop Ride, and says there are more shows than it names on those pages. The official FAQ calls it an interactive theatrical experience, not a horror maze.

Is there an official London Dungeon map?

I could not find a map or floor plan on thedungeons.com when I looked, so I have not linked one. The attraction is a guided walk-through, so you follow the staff and the actors rather than a plan. The map on this page shows the building and the stations and landmarks around it.

How long does it take to go through the London Dungeon?

The official FAQ says tours last approximately 75 minutes, excluding queue time. It gives queues as typically 10 to 30 minutes and up to 60 minutes at busier times, so I would plan about two hours in total.

Can you take photos inside the London Dungeon?

Not during the tour. The official FAQ says photography is not permitted at any time on the main tour, but you can take photos in the admission area and at the end of the tour.

Is the London Dungeon suitable for children?

The official FAQ recommends the Dungeon for ages 12 and over. Children aged 5 and over may enter at a parent or guardian's discretion, under-5s are not admitted, and all guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The drop ride has a minimum height of 1.4 metres.
