The cheapest Domus Aurea ticket I found on GetYourGuide is the Wise Tours guided VR visit at $62, and the most-reviewed is the C.I.S. Tours guided tour at $78: 4.6 stars from 319 reviews. The Parco archeologico del Colosseo also sells Domus Aurea tickets on its official ticket page. If the official dates are full, I’d book the C.I.S. tour.

Domus Aurea Guided Tour and Virtual Reality Experience
I compared all five Domus Aurea tickets and tours you can book on GetYourGuide right now. None of them is a plain entry ticket, because the Domus Aurea is a restoration site that opens only for guided, timed visits, so each listing wraps the entry fee into a tour with a guide and a virtual reality headset. Prices are in US dollars and come from the listings, checked in November 2026. The links that open GetYourGuide are affiliate links (more on that on my about page).

The big difference between Domus Aurea tickets is who sells the slot and what comes with it. The park sells its own visit, and the resellers add a meeting point, a language choice, a Colosseum visit or flexible cancellation. Each of these Domus Aurea tickets includes the VR reconstruction, and no Domus Aurea ticket I found lets you go in without a guide, so the real split is price, group size and whether you want a second site in the same trip.
Domus Aurea Tickets and Prices
The honest starting point for Domus Aurea tickets and prices is the official one. The Parco archeologico del Colosseo ticket page lists 26 euros for a visit with the educational route and virtual reality, and 18 euros full price with a 2 euro reduced ticket for EU citizens aged 18 to 25. I could not confirm every detail of that page, so treat the euro figures as the numbers to check there before you pay anyone else.
The reseller prices for Domus Aurea tickets are higher. The ROME WITH SILVIA small-group tour is $106 for 2 hours, the longest visit here, and it scores 4.2 from 42 reviews. It includes the entry ticket, a licensed archaeologist or professional guide and the VR experience, with headsets for groups over 6. You can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund. The listing text also describes a Pantheon visit that starts at Piazza della Minerva, but its inclusions list only the Domus Aurea, so read the option you pick before you rely on the Pantheon being part of it.

“If you’re patient, you can buy the tickets directly instead of paying ten times their value through resellers.” – GetYourGuide review
Prices are the lowest per-person prices on GetYourGuide when I last checked; the final price depends on the date, time slot and age.
Skip-the-Line Domus Aurea Tickets
Skip-the-line Domus Aurea tickets mean something different here than at the Colosseum. There is no ticket-office queue to skip, because the site runs timed, guided slots, and what a reseller really sells you is a reserved place in one of them. The Tour The Best listing pairs the Domus Aurea with the Colosseum arena floor at $128, the most expensive of the Domus Aurea tickets on this page. It is 1.5 hours long, scores 4.0 from 23 reviews and meets inside Oppio Park, next to the Colosseum, under a dark blue flag.
Its stop list runs from the Arch of Constantine to the Colosseum and its arena floor, then the Domus Aurea, where a host runs the VR experience. The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill entry is only included if you select that option. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. The price is high for the rating, and two reviewers wrote about changes: one found the Domus Aurea part ran in Italian although the ticket said English, another had a switch of start time and language. I would message the operator before booking the English option.

“Said was a fantastic guide! He gave his whole heart and Knowledge!” – GetYourGuide review
If you want the Colosseum on the same trip and are weighing Domus Aurea tickets against it, my page on Colosseum tickets compares the other ways in, and it may cost less to book the two sites separately.
Domus Aurea Tour
A Domus Aurea tour is worth the money because the site is hard to read alone: it is a set of vaulted rooms under a hill, with faded frescoes, and a guide is how you learn which room is which. The C.I.S. Tours guided tour with VR is the one I’d start with. It is $78, lasts 1.5 hours and has 4.6 stars from 319 reviews, the most of any Domus Aurea listing. Languages are Italian, Spanish, French and English. There is no free cancellation, only a 60 percent refund up to 3 days before the visit.
The meeting point is in front of the Colosseo metro station, at street level near the green kiosk, where staff hold a C.I.S Tours sign. The guide then takes you to the site. The listing names the Octagonal Hall, the Cryptoporticus and the Hall of Birds, and it adds a VR section showing the Golden Vault room as it may have looked under Nero.

“Fascinating history, knowledgeable guide who is an historian. She made the Domus Aureus come alive. The virtual reality toward the end of the tour was very helpful.” – GetYourGuide review
I compare every guided tour on my Domus Aurea tours page. Reviews of this tour agree on the guide and the VR. One reviewer put it this way:
“Excellent tour with a great guide. Very informative without getting bogged down. Recommend!”
— GetYourGuide reviewer
Domus Aurea Rome Tickets
The listing that fits Domus Aurea Rome tickets best if you also want the Colosseum is the second C.I.S. Tours product: the Domus Aurea with VR plus a Colosseum arena tour, at $78. It has no rating yet, so I cannot score it, but it shares the operator, price and VR format with the 4.6-star tour above. The listing says the Colosseum and Domus Aurea guided parts apply if the option is selected, and it adds the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill entrance ticket, with free time between the two visits.
Duration is given as 1.5 hours, which cannot cover everything the description lists, so I’d ask how long the full day takes before booking. You can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund. Languages are English, Spanish, Italian and French, and the meeting point is the Colosseo metro station again.

My pick: The combo for two sites at $78: Domus Aurea with VR, the Colosseum arena and Forum entry; no reviews yet, so I'd treat it as the less proven option.

Because it is unrated, I’d pick it only if you want the Colosseum arena floor and have a free half day. Otherwise the single-site tour is the safer buy.
Domus Aurea Reviews
The reviews of the Domus Aurea tickets I compared are short and mostly warm, and they say the same few things. Reviewers of the C.I.S. tour and the small-group tour praise the guides and call the VR section useful for picturing the rooms. One of them wrote that the underground setting suits a hot afternoon, because it is cool without being cold.
The complaints are about logistics, not the site. A French reviewer of the small-group tour had trouble finding the meeting point. Two reviewers of the Colosseum combo found out on the day that the Domus Aurea part would be in Italian. And one reviewer of the C.I.S. tour made the point I most want you to read:
“You can book the same experience directly through the Parco's website for less.”
— GetYourGuide reviewer
That fits the official price I found for Domus Aurea tickets, 26 euros for the educational route and VR. If you can get a slot on the park’s site, you pay less and get the park’s own guide. A reseller tour is the fallback when the dates are gone, or when you want the extra Colosseum visit. The Wise Tours listing at $62 has only 2 reviews at 4.5 stars, so I would not read anything into that score yet.
Domus Aurea Tickets Online
Domus Aurea tickets online come from two places: the park’s own page, and the resellers on this page. Per the official ticket page, booking is by timed slot, with visits every 15 minutes, and places are limited. That is why weekend dates sell out. The reseller listings above give you a booking that is confirmed straight away, and four of the five let you cancel up to 24 hours ahead or more.
Whichever way you book your Domus Aurea tickets, take the ID you booked with. The Wise Tours listing says the voucher is sent to you and you go to the entrance with your ID and voucher, where the Domus Aurea staff hand you to the guide. For the other operators the meeting point is a street meeting point instead. Check the confirmation twice, once at booking and once the day before, because the language and the start time are the two things reviewers say changed.
Domus Aurea Tickets Official Website and Price
The Domus Aurea tickets on the official website are sold by the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, and per its Domus Aurea page the visit is guided and runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the last entry at 3:30 pm. Rome’s tourism board lists the same three days at turismoroma.it. The cheapest listing on GetYourGuide is the Wise Tours visit at $62, and it is the closest thing here to an official-site experience: it includes the Domus Aurea ticket and reservation fees, an archaeologist guide, the VR and the underground areas, and you meet the guide at the entrance instead of in the city.
It is also the least proven of the Domus Aurea tickets, with 2 reviews. The itinerary names the Neronian Cryptoporticus and the Octagonal Courtyard, and the cancellation window is 24 hours. The language list is Spanish, Italian, French and English.

Yes, and Domus Aurea tickets are worth the money if you enjoy Roman art and want something other than the Colosseum crowd. The Domus Aurea is what is left of Nero’s palace, built after the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64, and Wikipedia says the modern site has over 150 rooms, of which about a third are open to the public. The attraction is the decoration and the sense of walking underground through a palace that was buried within decades, not a large view or a famous landmark.
It is not for everyone. The visit is short, cool and guided, and a group moves at the guide’s pace. If you want free time to wander, you won’t get it. If you have one day in ancient Rome, I’d spend it on the Colosseum and Forum first and add the Domus Aurea when the dates fit.
Domus Aurea What Is It
The Domus Aurea, or Golden House, is Emperor Nero’s palace on the Oppian Hill in central Rome, built around AD 64 to 68. Wikipedia records that Celer and Severus oversaw the project, and that other parts of the palace were filled with earth and built over soon after Nero’s death, with the Baths of Trajan raised on top. That is why it survived underground.
It was found again at the end of the 15th century, when a young Roman fell through a cleft in the Esquiline hillside. Raphael and Michelangelo then studied the frescoes. The entrance today is on Viale della Domus Aurea, a short walk uphill from the Colosseum.
Domus Aurea Experience: CoopCulture or the Park
Some searches pair the Domus Aurea experience with CoopCulture, a company that has run bookings for Italian heritage sites. The page I rely on, the park’s own, sells through the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, so that is where I’d look first, and I could not confirm that CoopCulture currently sells these tickets. If you see another seller’s name on a ticket, check that the slot, language and date match the park’s offer before you pay.
Opening Hours and Getting There
The Domus Aurea opens only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with visits every 15 minutes, per the official page, so Domus Aurea tickets are tied to those three days. Hours vary slightly between sources, so my Domus Aurea opening hours and visitor guide lays out both and the getting-there details. The Colosseo metro station is the usual meeting point, about 316 m away in a straight line, or roughly a 5-minute walk by my estimate.

Choosing between Domus Aurea tickets comes down to price, group size and whether you want the Colosseum too. This table is built from the product listings.

Every one of these is a guided tour with entry, so what separates them is the operator, the group size and the extra site. None of them is a plain ticket, and there are no separate tour or night pages here, because the guided tour is the only kind of Domus Aurea visit there is.
Near the Domus Aurea
The Domus Aurea sits on the Colle Oppio, a few minutes from the Colosseum and the rest of the Roman Forum area. Distances below are straight-line from the Domus Aurea coordinates on Wikipedia to each place on Google Maps, and the walking times are my estimates (distance multiplied by 1.3 at 4.8 km/h). For the main park ticket, see Colosseum tickets.
The Colosseum is about 284 m away, around a 5-minute walk. The Arch of Constantine is about 419 m (7 minutes) and the Roman Forum about 736 m (12 minutes), which has its own page on Roman Forum tickets. Trajan’s Forum is about 913 m (15 minutes), Trajan’s Column about 1 km (17 minutes) and Piazza Venezia about 1.2 km (19 minutes). The Trevi Fountain, covered in Trevi Fountain tickets, is about 1.5 km (24 minutes), and the Pantheon, in Pantheon tickets, about 1.7 km (28 minutes).
How I’d Choose
Most visitors: of all the Domus Aurea tickets, the C.I.S. Tours guided tour at $78, the most reviewed at 4.6 from 319 reviews.
Cheapest Domus Aurea ticket: the Wise Tours visit at $62, with the caveat of 2 reviews.
Small group: the ROME WITH SILVIA tour at $106, 2 hours with an archaeologist guide.
Two sites in one trip: the Tour The Best combo at $128 if you want the Colosseum arena, or the C.I.S. combo at $78 if you accept it has no rating yet.
Best value if you can get it: the official park slot, 26 euros with VR, because a reviewer says it costs less than the reseller tours.
Families and children: check the age rules on the official page before booking, as I did not find them in the listings.
Frequently asked questions
How much are Domus Aurea tickets?+
The official park page lists a visit with the educational route and virtual reality at 26 euros, and a full-price ticket of 18 euros with 2 euros for EU citizens aged 18 to 25. On GetYourGuide the five Domus Aurea tickets and tours I compared run from $62 to $128, and every one of them is a guided tour. Check the park page for the current official price.
Can you visit the Domus Aurea without a guide?+
I would plan on a guided visit. The Domus Aurea is a restoration site, and every listing I compared includes a guide, usually an archaeologist, and a timed slot. The official page also describes the visit as guided, so a walk-in ticket is not how this site works.
Which days is the Domus Aurea open?+
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, per the official Parco archeologico del Colosseo page and Rome's tourism site. It is closed from Monday to Thursday. Rome's tourism site also states a closure every first Sunday of the month, so check your date.
How long does it take to visit the Domus Aurea?+
The tours I compared last 1.5 hours, apart from the small-group tour with VR at 2 hours. The Colosseum combinations are listed at 1.5 hours too, but they cover two sites, so ask the operator how the time is split before you book.
Why is the Domus Aurea closed?+
It is closed on most days because it is a working restoration site. Wikipedia records that it shut for restoration at the end of 2005, reopened partly in 2007, closed again in 2008 and reopened in 2014 after a vault collapse in 2010. Today it opens only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in small timed groups.
Is it cold inside the Domus Aurea?+
Yes, it is underground. One listing warns that temperatures can be around 10 degrees Celsius, even in August, and advises a light jacket and closed shoes. A reviewer of another tour found it cool but not cold enough for a sweater, so bring a light layer.
Is the Domus Aurea worth visiting?+
I think so if you like Roman painting or want to understand what Nero built. The interest is in the frescoes, the underground rooms and the virtual reality reconstruction, not in a large open site. The two 1.5 hour VR tours score 4.6 and 4.5 stars, though one has only two reviews.
