A good Eiffel Tower map has two jobs: it shows where to arrive, and it tells you what each level holds once you are up there. This page does both. First comes the map of the tower with its metro stations and the sights around it, then the route through the levels I would follow, then a short note on each one. If you have not booked yet, my guide to tickets for the Eiffel Tower shows which ticket reaches the second floor and which reaches the summit.

Eiffel Tower Map: Stations and Sights Around It

This Eiffel Tower map shows the tower, the nearest metro stations and the landmarks within a longer walk, from Google Maps data.

Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Pins at Google Maps locations; walking times are my estimates (straight line × 1.3 at 4.8 km/h).

  • Eiffel Tower · The attraction
  • Gustave Eiffel's office · Nearby sight · about 1 min walk
  • Champ de Mars · Nearby sight · about 7 min walk
  • Place du Trocadero · Nearby sight · about 9 min walk
  • Bir-Hakeim · Station · about 10 min walk
  • Passy · Station · about 10 min walk
  • Palais de Chaillot · Nearby sight · about 10 min walk
  • Iéna · Station · about 12 min walk
  • Trocadéro · Station · about 13 min walk
  • Alma-Marceau · Station · about 14 min walk
  • Dupleix · Station · about 14 min walk
  • École Militaire · Station · about 15 min walk
  • Boissière · Station · about 16 min walk
  • La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle · Station · about 18 min walk
  • La Tour-Maubourg · Station · about 19 min walk

By Google Maps, the nearest stations are Bir-Hakeim and Passy, about 10 minutes on foot, Iena about 12 and Trocadero about 13. Those times are my estimates, from straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3 at 4.8 km/h. The address is Av. Gustave Eiffel, 75007 Paris. The Arc de Triomphe is about 28 minutes away on foot by the same method, and the Louvre is about 51 minutes, so I would take the metro for those. If you are choosing which museum to pair with the tower, my page on the Louvre Museum covers that side.

I looked for an official plan to link as an official map and did not find a downloadable one. The operator’s site, toureiffel.paris, would not open for me when I checked, so I cannot confirm what it offers for download. What the official site does have is an explore section that goes through the tower from the gardens to the top. The route below sits on top of that Eiffel Tower map as my own reading order, based on the official level descriptions, Wikipedia and the tour listings. Check the signs on the day.

The Route I Would Take Inside the Tower

Think of this as the inside half of the Eiffel Tower map. This is the order I would follow on a ticket that reaches the summit, and it is also what to see in Eiffel Tower levels, step by step. I leave the times blank on purpose: no source I could read gives a time per level.

My route through the Eiffel Tower
  1. Esplanade and securityQueue and bag check at the foot
  2. First floorGlass floor at 57 m
  3. Second floorPanorama and the restaurant
  4. Lift to the summitOnly with a summit ticket
  5. Gustave Eiffel's officeAt the top, with wax figures
  6. Back downLift or stairs to the second floor

Esplanade and Security Check

On any Eiffel Tower map the ground level looks like open space, and in practice it is the first checkpoint of the day. Every visit starts at ground level, where you queue and pass a security check. Several tours meet you away from the tower and walk you in: the Blue Fox tour meets in front of 1 Avenue de Suffren, the Crown Tours visit meets in the small park on Allee Leon-Bourgeois, and the reserved-access listing meets at a GetYourGuide shop at 62 Avenue Suffren. The Blue Fox listing says you go through the security point, then onto the plaza directly under the tower, then into the first lift. The dinner listing asks you to arrive 30 minutes early through entrance 1, the south one, on the esplanade.

First Floor and the Glass Floor

On the Eiffel Tower map of levels, this is the first stop above ground. The first floor sits at 57 m, per the official ticket page, and it is where the glass floor is. Wikipedia says the glass floor was installed during the 2014 refurbishment, and the Crown Tours listing suggests making time for it once the guided part ends. The first floor also holds a restaurant, Le 58 Tour Eiffel, per Wikipedia. The Madame Brasserie dinner I compare, at $145 for 2 hours, is a first-floor table reached through the esplanade.

If you climb rather than ride, the first stretch is over 300 steps, per Wikipedia. The official site does not sell a lift ticket to the first floor alone in the pages I could read, so I treat it as a stop on the way up.

Second Floor: The Main Viewing Level

The second floor is the level most visitors reach, and it is the one the cheapest guided tours stop at. The Crown Tours listing at $43 offers the second floor, or the second floor plus the summit, as options. The Mon Petit Paris reserved-access ticket says that from the second floor you can pick out Les Invalides, Sacre-Coeur, the Arc de Triomphe and the Seine. The Blue Fox guide tours all four sides of the platform, explaining the monuments in view.

I will not quote a height for this level. The official ticket page gives 116 m and the official FAQ gives 125 m, so the two pages disagree, and the second floor also has Le Jules Verne, a one-star Michelin restaurant, per Wikipedia.

“The tour was good and the tour guide Lucielle-Omondi Dupont was very knowledgeable. We really enjoy it. Thanks” – GetYourGuide review

The Lift to the Summit

The top of the Eiffel Tower map is the one level that needs its own lift. The summit is the highest public point, and the official site says you reach it only by lift from the second floor. Wikipedia gives the upper platform as 276 m above the ground and the tip of the tower as 330 m. Stairs go no further than the second floor. You need a summit ticket, or a tour option that includes it, and not every listing guarantees availability. The reserved-access listing says the summit is included only if that option is selected and available, so read the confirmation before you rely on it.

“Loved this tour great value for money. Our guide Dana was great very bubbly & informative. The view from the summit was spectacular with amazing views all round especially when sun was setting. Highly recommend” – GetYourGuide review

Gustave Eiffel’s Office

The office is at the top. The official site describes a restored reconstruction with wax figures of Gustave Eiffel, his daughter Claire and Thomas Edison. Wikipedia adds that the apartment is open to the public with period decorations, and that the third level also has a champagne bar. A spiral staircase once joined the second floor to the top, and Eiffel used it to reach his office, according to the official first-floor page. I would spend a few minutes here before the view, because the room is easy to walk past.

Getting Around and Access

A map of the tower on your phone helps outside, but inside the structure you follow the signs and the staff, because levels are reached by separate lifts and queues. Keep the Eiffel Tower map on this page open for the meeting points and stations, and use the staff for anything about the day, such as which lift is running.

I could not read the official accessibility page, so I will not claim which levels are step-free. Wikipedia says the tower has 8 lifts, and the stairs only reach the second floor. For wheelchair access, lift capacity and bag rules, read the accessibility section of toureiffel.paris on the day, and ask the tour operator if you booked a guided visit.

If you plan around the clock, my Eiffel Tower opening hours guide has the Google Maps hours and the best time of day to go. If you want a printed Eiffel Tower map, the official explore section is the nearest thing I could confirm. For a walk with a guide, I compare every option on my Eiffel Tower tours page, and the evening versions are on my Eiffel Tower night tour page. The story of the structure itself is on my Eiffel Tower facts page. When you are ready to pick one, compare every Eiffel Tower ticket in one place, and the home page lists the other attractions I cover.

Frequently asked questions

What is inside the Eiffel Tower?

Inside the Eiffel Tower you find three public levels above the ground-level esplanade: the first floor with a glass floor, the second floor with views and a restaurant, and the summit, which has a champagne bar and a reconstruction of Gustave Eiffel's office. The summit is reached only by lift from the second floor, per the official site.

Is there an official Eiffel Tower map?

I could not find a downloadable floor plan on toureiffel.paris, and the site itself would not load for me when I checked, so I have not linked a plan I cannot verify. The official site has an explore section that presents the tower level by level, and I link it below.

How high is each level of the Eiffel Tower?

The official site puts the first floor at 57 m and the summit at 276 m. Its pages give different figures for the second floor, 116 m on the ticket page and 125 m in the FAQ, so I do not quote one. Wikipedia gives the upper platform as 276 m and the tip as 330 m.

Can you take the stairs up the Eiffel Tower?

Stairs lead to the first and second floors only, and Wikipedia says each climb is over 300 steps. The summit has no public stairs, and the official site says it is reached only by lift from the second floor.

How long do you need inside the Eiffel Tower?

The tower visits I compared run 1 to 2.5 hours, and the Blue Fox guided tour with summit access lists 1.5 hours. Add time at the summit if you want to see the office.
