The Montjuic opening hours are really the hours of its attractions, since the hill itself has no gate that I could find. The cable car runs 10 am to 6 pm in November and December on the official site, and Google Maps shows the castle open 10 am to 6 pm every day. This guide covers the opening hours of Montjuic’s cable car, the castle and the fountain, how to get there and when to go. If you want to buy something, my Montjuic tickets page compares ten options from $21.

The official Montjuic opening hours for the cable car are seasonal: January and February 10 am to 6 pm, March to May 10 am to 7 pm, June to September 10 am to 9 pm, October 10 am to 7 pm, November and December 10 am to 6 pm, and 10 am to 2.30 pm on 25 December, 1 January and 6 January. Google Maps shows a flat 7 pm, so the two disagree for the winter and summer months. When they differ I trust the official site, and today, Saturday 7 November 2026, that means a 6 pm close. The page lists no closing days.
Montjuic Castle Opening Hours
The Montjuic opening hours for the castle, per Google Maps, are 10 am to 6 pm on all seven days, and its website field points to the castle’s page on barcelona.cat. That page did not load when I tried, and a second address I tried returned an error, so I cannot give you last entry, seasonal changes, closing days or the admission price from the official source. Treat the 6 pm close as a Google Maps figure and check the official page for winter and holiday changes.
What I can say about the castle comes from Wikipedia: it is a largely 17th century fortress that was once a prison and execution site. None of the cable car tickets I compared includes castle entry. The $60 walking tour from In Out Barcelona Tours is the one I found that lists the castle visit as included, so see my tickets page for what each product covers.
Montjuic Cable Car Opening Hours
The cable car is the easiest of the Montjuic opening hours to plan around, because the official page gives a clear table. Two details are worth knowing. First, the route per the official page runs from Parc Montjuïc to the castle with no intermediate stop, and the return has an optional stop at the Mirador de l’Alcalde. Second, the page carried a notice that service might be affected by a scheduled strike on one day in October, which has probably passed, but it is the kind of notice I would look for before travelling.
Tickets can be bought online through Hola Barcelona, which the page says gives a 10 percent discount, or at the ticket office; one-way tickets are sold only at the ticket office. The $21 round trip I list on the tickets page is valid for 24 hours and can be cancelled up to 24 hours before.

Montjuic Fountain Hours
The Magic Fountain follows its own calendar, separate from the other Montjuic opening hours. From 1 November to 31 March the City of Barcelona lists shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8.00 pm and 8.30 pm, on its show times page. The fountain is out of operation from 1 to 15 November for annual maintenance, so there is no show tonight, and the next show nights are Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 November. Google Maps shows 9 to 10 pm on the same three days, an hour later than the city page. I did not find the April to October timetable. For all the Montjuic opening hours at the foot of the hill, my Magic Fountain opening hours guide covers it in full.
What to Do in Montjuic
Per Wikipedia, the hill holds the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in the Palau Nacional, the Fundació Joan Miró, the Poble Espanyol village, the Olympic stadium and the Olympic and Sports Museum, plus the Barcelona botanical gardens, the Mossèn Costa i Llobera gardens and the cemetery. The 1929 International Exposition built much of it, and the 1992 Olympics added more.
For a first visit, within the Montjuic opening hours of each sight, I would ride the cable car, walk through the castle area and stop at the Mirador de Montjuic, which Google Maps rates 4.7 from 1,804 reviews and shows open 10 am to 8 pm. The Montjuïc Lighthouse is listed as open 24 hours. Museum hours and prices are not in my data, because the MNAC, Fundació Joan Miró and Poble Espanyol sites would not load, so open each one yourself before you plan the day.
Best Time to Visit Montjuic
The official sources of Montjuic opening hours give no crowd data, so I cannot name a quiet hour. What I can tell you comes from the opening hours of the cable car and the weather. The cable car opens at 10 am all year, so going on the first rides is the way to beat the midday arrivals, though that is my judgement and not a statistic.
Season changes the opening hours of Montjuic attractions and how long you can stay. In my Open-Meteo data for 2025, the sunset averages 17:32 in November and 17:23 in December, against 21:26 in June, and the cable car stops at 6 pm in the winter, so you will see the castle in the late afternoon light at best. June had 13.5 hours of sunshine on average, December 6.1, and rain days ran from 4 in November to 12 in December and 18 in March. See Open-Meteo for the method. I would pick April to June or September, when the cable car runs late and the days are long.
How to Get to Montjuic
Check the opening hours of Montjuic’s funicular too: most visitors reach the hill with the funicular from Paral·lel metro station, which Google Maps lists as an inclined railway station. Wikipedia says the funicular is part of the Barcelona Metro and climbs toward the top, where the cable car takes over. The nearest stations in my Google Maps data are Poble Sec, about 0.75 km from the cable car pin on Avinguda Miramar and roughly 12 minutes on foot, and Paral·lel, 0.81 km and about 13 minutes. Espanya is 1.41 km away, around 23 minutes. These are estimates: the straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3, at 4.8 km per hour.
The castle sits further up. From the cable car pin it is 0.65 km, about 11 minutes. The Mirador de Montjuic is only 0.19 km from the castle, roughly 3 minutes. If you are walking from the old town, the Columbus monument at the harbour is about 1.78 km from the castle, around 29 minutes, which is a long walk uphill, so I would take the funicular.
What to Know Before You Go
The cable car ticket does not include the castle, as the product listing says, so plan for a separate castle ticket within the castle’s opening hours. The private tours I compared say the same about museum entries, and two of them leave the cable car fare to be paid at the station. The 24-hour validity of the $21 ticket means you can use the outbound ride in the morning and come back later in the day.
The Montjuic opening hours are the main thing to know. I found no bag, dress or ID rules for the hill or the cable car, and the castle’s page was not available, so I will not guess. Allow at least half a day for the cable car, the castle and one viewpoint, and the guided tours run 2 to 3.5 hours on top of travel time. Wear shoes for the slopes. When you are ready to book, my Montjuic tickets page lists every option, and the Casa Batlló tickets page is the place to start for the Gaudí side of Barcelona.
