The Trevi Fountain opening hours for the ticketed basin area are 9 am to 10 pm on most days and 11:30 am to 10 pm on Mondays and Fridays, with last entry at 9 pm. Outside those hours you can still look at the fountain from the piazza. This guide covers the hours, the 2 euro fee, the entrance, the best time to go and how to get there. If you want to compare tours that include the entry, my page on Trevi Fountain tickets lists all 10.
Trevi Fountain Opening Hours
Today, Saturday 7 November 2026, the Trevi Fountain opening hours per Google Maps are 9 am to 10 pm. The week looks like this:

The official city page gives the same Trevi Fountain opening hours, with last entry at 9 pm every day. It also warns that hours can change on some holidays and for maintenance or public-order reasons. The examples I read were entry from 2 pm on several Mondays in November and December, and from 9 am on 25 December, so I’d check the page for your date rather than rely on the weekly table.
Is the Trevi Fountain Open
Yes, the Trevi Fountain is open every day of the week, but the Trevi Fountain opening hours mean two different things. The fountain is a public monument in the middle of a piazza, and you can see it at any time of day or night. The restricted part is the area beside the basin, which has been ticketed since 2 February 2026 and is only open during the hours above. The official page says the fountain can still be seen for free outside visiting hours.
So if you arrive at 10:30 pm, the fountain is there and lit, and the basin side is closed. If you arrive on a Monday morning, the view from the piazza works, but the inner area opens later. Barriers were installed to protect the low edge of the fountain and to manage queues from Via della Stamperia, according to ANSA.
Trevi Fountain Times, Working Hours and Timings
The Trevi Fountain opening hours come down to three times that matter: the opening time, the last entry and the closing time. The opening time is 9 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and 11:30 am on Monday and Friday. Last entry is 9 pm and the area closes at 10 pm, so the final hour is for people already inside. The official page does not describe a time limit once you are in, and I could not find one, so I would not assume there is one.
There is no time-slot booking, so the Trevi Fountain opening hours are the whole system. A tour with a fixed start time is different, because it is the guide who gives you the slot. The Tix & Tours underground tour, for example, runs 1 hour and includes the restricted basin area.

“Our guide, Eugene was the BEST!! He was very knowledgeable, patient, and easy to understand! We thoroughly enjoyed our tour &:would recommend the opportunity!” – GetYourGuide review
The Trevi Fountain entrance fee is 2 euros for non-residents, per the official page, and it buys access to the inner perimeter of the fountain. Free entry is listed for Rome and Metropolitan City residents who show an ID card, children under 6, people with disabilities and one companion, licensed tour guides with a badge and holders of a valid Roma MIC Card. Proof has to be shown at the ticket office, and without it the ticket must be paid.
You can buy the ticket online through Vivaticket, at the Musei Civici and Tourist Info Points, from authorised sellers, or at the entrance by card only. A ticket bought ahead has no date or time and cannot be refunded or changed, according to the page. Looking at the fountain from the piazza costs nothing, whatever the Trevi Fountain opening hours say.
Trevi Fountain Entrance
The Trevi Fountain entrance for the ticketed area, inside the opening hours above, is on the side of Via della Stamperia, where the queue is managed, according to ANSA’s description of the new barriers. Holders of a ticket or a free entitlement use a dedicated queue, and the official page says there is no cloakroom and no restrooms, so it recommends small bags.
Tour operators use their own meeting points around the fountain, and they differ by product. The Touriks tour meets at Piazza di Trevi 82, on the right side of the fountain. The Borghese Routes ritual meets at 6 Via della Stamperia and hands you the ticket there, and the Discover Rome walk meets in Piazza Poli, behind the fountain. If you book a tour, go to that meeting point first and not to the gate.
Best Time to Visit the Trevi Fountain
The best time to visit the Trevi Fountain depends on whether you want it quiet or lit, and the official page publishes no crowd levels beyond a chart of average trends, so I won’t name a quiet hour as fact. ANSA reported that the fountain draws about 30,000 visitors a day, with peaks of 70,000, which tells you a quiet slot is hard to find at any hour.
What the Trevi Fountain opening hours do give you is a choice. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday the first slot is at 9 am, and on Monday and Friday the inner area opens at 11:30 am. Light changes with the season. Open-Meteo’s 2025 weather record for Rome shows the sun setting at 4:39 pm in December and about 8:47 pm in June, and rainy days from 2 in June to 17 in March (Open-Meteo).

If you want the fountain at golden hour with a photographer, the Rome Photographer session at $39 meets at Piazza di Trevi and lasts from 15 minutes, with 5.0 stars from 179 reviews.
How to Get to the Trevi Fountain
Plan your route around the Trevi Fountain opening hours: the fountain is in the Trevi district at Piazza di Trevi, 00187 Rome. Google Maps lists three metro stations within about 10 minutes on foot: Barberini at roughly 9 minutes, Spagna at roughly 10 and Repubblica at roughly 17. Termini, the main railway station, is about 24 minutes away. These are my estimates from straight-line distance, multiplied by 1.3 and walked at 4.8 km/h, so allow for the crowds in the narrow streets around the piazza. I haven’t named metro lines, because I did not check them on the transit operator’s site.
Walking from other sights is easy. The Spanish Steps and Piazza Venezia are each about 9 minutes away and the Pantheon about 10. The Colosseum is about 23 minutes, and I cover it on my Colosseum tickets page, while the Pantheon has its own Pantheon tickets comparison.
Things to Do Near Trevi Fountain
Several of Rome’s best-known sights are within a quarter of an hour of the Trevi Fountain on foot. By my estimate (straight line times 1.3 at 4.8 km/h) Piazza Venezia is about 9 minutes away, the Spanish Steps about 9, the Pantheon about 10 (Google Maps 4.8 from 291,496 reviews), the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II about 11 and Piazza Navona about 14. The Trevi Fountain itself is rated 4.7 from 530,450 reviews. Within the Trevi Fountain opening hours listed above, an evening visit pairs well with a walk to the Pantheon. My Trevi Fountain map shows the streets between them.
What to Know Before You Go
The official page sets out the rules, and the fines are real. You cannot eat, drink or smoke at the basin, sit on its edge, bathe in it, drink from it or throw anything in except the traditional coin. The page lists fines for these, including 450 euros for bathing or drinking from the fountain, and says dogs must be carried or on a leash and muzzled. Allow about 30 minutes for the fountain within the Trevi Fountain opening hours, or 40 minutes to 1 hour for an underground tour of Vicus Caprarius, which is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm and closed Mondays, per its own site.
The fountain itself dates from 1762, was designed by Nicola Salvi, and stands 26.3 metres high, according to Wikidata. It is the largest Baroque fountain in the world, per Wikipedia.
When you have the Trevi Fountain opening hours sorted, the last step is choosing what to book. I compared every option in my Trevi Fountain tickets guide, and the home page shows the other attractions on the site.
Frequently asked questions
What are the Trevi Fountain opening hours?+
Per Google Maps and the official city page, access to the inner area is open 9 am to 10 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and 11:30 am to 10 pm on Monday and Friday. Last entry is at 9 pm every day. Outside those hours the fountain itself can still be seen from the piazza for free.
Is the Trevi Fountain open 24 hours?+
The monument can be seen at any hour from the piazza, and the official site says it stays free to view outside visiting hours. The ticketed area by the basin is only open during the hours above. I would not count on the basin side at night.
How much is the Trevi Fountain entrance fee?+
The official site says the ticket for the inner perimeter costs 2 euros for non-residents. Rome and Metropolitan City residents with ID, children under 6, people with disabilities and one companion, licensed guides and Roma MIC Card holders enter free, and they must show proof at the ticket office.
Do I need to book a time for the Trevi Fountain?+
No. The official page says there is no timed reservation, and an advance ticket has no date or time, so it cannot be refunded or changed. You buy online through Vivaticket, at Musei Civici and Tourist Info Points, or at the entrance by card only. Tours that include entry have their own start times.
What is the best time to visit the Trevi Fountain?+
I can't give you official crowd data, because the official page only shows average trends. What the data does show is the opening pattern: Monday and Friday start at 11:30 am, other days at 9 am. I'd go at 9 am on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for the first slot, or after dark when the fountain is lit.
