The Villa d’Este opening hours on Google Maps are 8:30 am to 4 pm from Tuesday to Sunday and 2 to 4 pm on Monday. The official site was unreachable when I checked, so I can’t confirm last entry or seasonal changes. This guide gives the hours by day, the season data, how to get to Tivoli and the rules I could and could not confirm. When you are ready to book, my comparison of Villa d’Este tickets lists all nine day trips with prices.

Villa d’Este Opening Hours

Today, Saturday 7 November 2026, Google Maps shows the villa open from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The week looks like this:

Day Hours per Google Maps
Monday 2 pm to 4 pm
Tuesday 8:30 am to 4 pm
Wednesday 8:30 am to 4 pm
Thursday 8:30 am to 4 pm
Friday 8:30 am to 4 pm
Saturday 8:30 am to 4 pm
Sunday 8:30 am to 4 pm

Those Villa d’Este opening hours come from a listing that Google ties to the museum’s own website, villae.cultura.gov.it, but I could not open that site to compare. Where the two differ, trust the official Villa d’Este page. I have no confirmed last entry time for the Villa d’Este opening hours either, so treat 4 pm as the closing time and arrive well before it. The villa stands at Piazza Trento 5 in Tivoli, per Google Maps, which rates it 4.7 from 35,773 reviews.

Villa D Este Tivoli Opening Hours

The Villa d’Este Tivoli opening hours have one oddity worth knowing: Monday is not a closing day on Google Maps but a short afternoon, from 2 to 4 pm. A tour that departs from Rome on a Monday morning could therefore arrive when the villa is shut for part of the day. The tour operators plan their own schedules around this, and I can’t see them in the listings, so ask the operator which days it runs. The Green Line half day, for example, leaves Rome at 2:15 pm from April to September and 7:45 am from October to March, which tells you the operator moves its start with the season.

Where to Eat Near Villa d’Este

Lunch has to fit inside the Villa d’Este opening hours, which end at 4 pm on Google Maps. People searching for a Villa d’Este restaurant are often after a different property of the same name, a hotel in northern Italy, which this page does not cover. At the Tivoli villa, food is a tour matter. The Enjoy Rome full-day tour includes lunch on one option, the Tours About and Tours And Tours trips include a lunch in Tivoli, and the Rome Your Way day includes a set-menu lunch. The ItalyBestExcursions car leaves lunch to you and takes you to a restaurant with a view of Tivoli.

The recommended restaurant, La Sibilla, was wonderful. The architecture changes, showing different times.

Not every reviewer rates the group lunches highly. Two reviewers of the Tours About day call the lunch average or not the best value, so if food matters, the independent car and its restaurant stop may suit you better.

Villa d’Este Tour

If you are choosing a Villa d’Este tour rather than planning around the Villa d’Este opening hours alone, the one I’d start with is the Enjoy Rome full-day trip: $72, 4.5 stars from 2,516 reviews, with admission, a guide and headsets included. It pairs the villa with Hadrian’s Villa, which is why most tours here take the best part of a day. My comparison of every ticket is on the hub page, and the card below is the one I’d book first.

Villa D Este Official Website

The museum’s official website is villae.cultura.gov.it according to Google Maps, with a separate ticket page at villae.midaticket.com. Wikipedia’s article on Hadrian’s Villa says the sites have been managed since 2014 by the Polo Museale del Lazio, the regional state museums body, and gives the same website. I could not load either page to read hours, closing days, ticket prices or the rules on bags and photos, so the opening hours of Villa d’Este above are the only schedule I can give.

Villa d’Este Dress Code and Entrance Fee

I found no dress code on any page I could read, and I won’t invent one. What reviewers do mention is the terrain: one traveller was unprepared for the number of steps at Villa d’Este and the uphill walk at Hadrian’s Villa, and says better shoes would have helped. A reviewer of another tour advises that the day suits people who can walk a reasonable distance and cope with a fair number of stairs.

The Villa d’Este entrance fee is also something I could not read from the official site, so I won’t print a figure. What I can tell you is what the tours include: the $72 Enjoy Rome trip lists admission fees, the $111 Green Line half day lists entrance to both villas, and the $435 ItalyBestExcursions car lists a skip-the-line entry but describes buying tickets on arrival, so confirm with that operator.

Best Time to Visit Villa d’Este

Because of the early closing, the best time to visit Villa d’Este is a dry morning in late spring or early summer, going by weather alone. Open-Meteo’s historical data for 2025 at the villa’s coordinates shows June with 13.8 hours of sunshine on average and only 3 rainy days, and July with 13.6 hours and 4 rainy days. March, April and May had 14 to 15 rainy days each, and November had 11 rainy days with 7.9 hours of sunshine and sunset at 4:47 pm. Open-Meteo is the source for these figures, at open-meteo.com.

Two reviewers of the tours say the fountains were switched off on their day, and one says the water organ could not play. I can’t tell you when the fountains run, so ask your operator, because the water features are the villa’s main draw. Wikipedia says the villa’s Fountain of the Organ had its water organ installed in 1571 and restored to playing condition in 2003, which gives you a sense of what a dry fountain means to the visit. Summer brings heat: reviewers of the day trips mention hot weather and appreciate the air-conditioned bus. Check the Villa d’Este opening hours for your month too: late autumn and winter days are shorter, and with the Villa d’Este opening hours ending at 4 pm, the light is gone early.

How to Get to Villa d’Este

Villa d’Este is in the centre of Tivoli, which Wikipedia places about 30 km north-east of the centre of Rome. Google Maps shows the villa and its ticket-office entrance about 130 m apart, roughly a 2 minute walk by my estimate. The tours I compared all start in Rome and handle the drive:

If you travel on your own by train or bus, check Trenitalia and Cotral for timetables, since I did not verify them. A reviewer of one tour advises planning for at least eight hours in case of traffic, so don’t book an evening flight on the same day.

What to Know Before You Go

The Villa d’Este opening hours are short on paper, so the practical advice is about timing and effort. The villa is a terraced garden, so expect steps. One reviewer of the Enjoy Rome tour says it suits those who can walk a reasonable distance and cope with a fair number of stairs, and another notes the coach had steep steps and little legroom. On the half-day tour, reviewers say you get about an hour at each villa, which is tight. Add the transfer, lunch and the second site, and the full day tours run 7 hours.

Wikipedia says the Villa d’Este has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001 and lists 51 fountains and nymphaeums, 398 spouts and 220 basins. Hadrian’s Villa, the usual second stop, has been listed since 1999. You can read the UNESCO entry at whc.unesco.org. Security checks, bag limits, photography rules and any free-entry days are things I could not confirm, so check the official site before you go.

Once you know the Villa d’Este opening hours that suit your date, the next decision is which day trip to book, and every Villa d’Este ticket I compared is on the hub page. For other sights in Rome, start from the home page.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Villa d'Este opening hours?

Google Maps lists Villa d'Este open from 8:30 am to 4 pm Tuesday to Sunday and from 2 to 4 pm on Monday. The official site was unreachable when I checked, so I could not confirm those hours, the last entry time or seasonal changes. Check the official site for your date.

Is Villa d'Este open on Mondays?

Google Maps shows a shorter Monday, from 2 to 4 pm, instead of a full closure. I could not read the official calendar to confirm it, so check the official site before planning a Monday visit.

How long does a visit to Villa d'Este take?

A reviewer of the 4-hour half-day tour describes about one hour at the villa, enough for the main sights but tight. The full-day tours run 7 hours and include Hadrian's Villa and lunch. I'd allow at least two hours in the gardens if you can choose.

How far is Villa d'Este from Rome?

Wikipedia puts Tivoli about 30 km north-east of the centre of Rome. One tour listing quotes a 45-minute drive from central Rome, another about an hour, and a reviewer advises planning for traffic.

Is there a dress code at Villa d'Este?

I found no dress code on the pages I could read. What reviewers do mention is the number of steps in the gardens, so wear comfortable shoes. Check the official site for current rules.

When do the Villa d'Este fountains run?

I could not confirm a schedule. Two reviewers on GetYourGuide report days when the fountains were switched off, and one operator warned its guests by email and offered a refund. Check with the official site or your tour operator before you go.
