The Spanish Steps are free and have no entrance ticket, so Spanish Steps tickets on GetYourGuide are tours, classes and photoshoots that include them. The cheapest are two $22 city walks. The most reviewed is a $50 pasta class near the steps (4.8 from 2,234 reviews). For a first visit I’d book the $39 Crown Tours guided walk (4.6 from 282 reviews), because it lists the Pantheon entry and the Trevi Fountain access ticket.

Pasta & Tiramisu Cooking Class near the Spanish Steps
I compared all 10 Spanish Steps tickets and tours on GetYourGuide. The steps are an open staircase, so none of these is a ticket in the museum sense. Five are guided walks through central Rome that end or pass at the steps, one is an underground tour that starts there, three are cooking classes within a few minutes’ walk and one is a private photoshoot. Prices for these Spanish Steps tickets are in US dollars, checked in November 2026. Links that open GetYourGuide are affiliate links, explained on my about page.
Spanish Steps Tickets at a Glance
Here is how the Spanish Steps tickets look side by side, before the detail.
Pantheon entry in 2 walks, Trevi Fountain area access in 1, Vicus Caprarius ruins in 2 tours; the classes and the photoshoot include no entry
Official ticket
None found: the Rome tourism page for the steps lists no ticket and no hours
Time to allow
30 minutes to 2 hours for the photoshoot, 2 hours for the classes, 1 to 2.5 hours for most walks, up to 4 hours with add-ons
Address
Piazza di Spagna, 00187 Rome (per Google Maps)
Google Maps hours
None listed, because the steps are an open public space
The real difference between these Spanish Steps tickets is not the staircase, which everyone climbs for free. It is what comes with it: an entry ticket to another monument, an underground aqueduct, a pasta lesson or a photographer.
Spanish Steps Tickets and Prices
Spanish Steps tickets and prices start at zero, because the staircase itself is free, per the Rome tourism board’s page, which describes a place for passing through and meeting and lists no admission. Everything on this page is a layer on top of that. The most popular of the Spanish Steps tickets by far is the Cheforaday pasta and tiramisu class at $50: 2 hours, 4.8 stars from 2,234 reviews, with an instructor, homemade fettuccine with a sauce of your choice, a glass of wine or a soft drink, tiramisu, a limoncello toast and a certificate. It meets inside Trattoria Amici at Via della Croce 34 and runs in English and Spanish, and you can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

“The teacher was so friendly and spoke multiple languages. we really enjoyed making the pasta and the cooked pasta was delicious. the best pasta I had on my trip.” – GetYourGuide review
This class is a meal, so I’d treat it as a Spanish Steps ticket only if you want dinner. At the other end of the price range, among Spanish Steps tickets, is a private photo session. PhotoStorica charges $61 for a photographer who meets you at Babington’s Tea Rooms on Piazza di Spagna 23, with 20 to 50 edited photos depending on the package. The itinerary runs from the Spanish Steps to the Pincio Terrace, Villa Borghese, the Colosseum and Capitoline Hill, and the listing offers English, Italian, Persian and Spanish. It has 12 reviews at 5.0, which is a thin base.

Skip-the-line tickets for the Spanish Steps do not exist in the way they do for a museum, because there is nothing to queue for at the steps. What can be skipped is the line for something else on the same walk. The City Wonders walk at $22 is the cheapest listing with a real entry ticket: the Pantheon entrance is included in every option, while the walk to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, plus a gelato break, belongs to the full tour option only. It runs one to two and a half hours depending on the option, in English, and scores 4.6 from 383 reviews.

“Lovely ,knowledgable, friendly guide. What else could you ask for.” – GetYourGuide review
Read the listing carefully before you pick an option of this Spanish Steps ticket. The entry-ticket-only option has no guide, and the Trevi Fountain coin-toss ticket is listed as not included. The group meets at Via Giuseppe Zanardelli 21, near Piazza Navona, and not at the steps, so you end the walk at the steps rather than start there.
Spanish Steps Rome Tickets
Spanish Steps Rome tickets that bundle several sights are the tidiest buy if you want the steps as part of a day. The Crown Tours guided walk at $39 lasts 2.5 hours and lists the Pantheon entry ticket, a guided visit inside the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain visitor-area access ticket, with your guide accompanying you, and a walk through Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps. A private option is available, and the languages are Italian, English, German, French and Spanish. It has 4.6 stars from 282 reviews. The group meets near the elephant statue at Piazza della Minerva 15 minutes early, and the listing says late arrivals are not guaranteed access.

“Sara was a very knowledgeable and engaging guide. She provided background information on the sites we visited and discussed extensively other pertinent aspects of the history of Italy. It was an enjoyable tour.” – GetYourGuide review
Reviewers of this walk keep naming the guide as knowledgeable and engaging, and one mentions that the morning went by quickly. The steps are the last stop, so this Spanish Steps ticket ends where the shopping streets begin.
Are the Spanish Steps Free
Yes, the Spanish Steps are free to enter, climb and photograph at any time of day, so you never need a ticket for the Spanish Steps themselves. What the city regulates is how you use them. Rome’s police regulation, approved by the Capitoline Assembly in June 2019, bans sitting on listed monuments and names the Trinita dei Monti staircase among them, according to the Roma Capitale regulation. Wikipedia reports the penalty as 250 euros for sitting, rising to 400 for dirtying or damaging the steps, and that includes eating on them. I could not read the fine table on the city’s own site, so I’d confirm the current amount with Roma Capitale before quoting it.
In practice you stop on the landings, take photos and keep walking. The regulation is also described as barring trolleys and strollers from being dragged over the steps, so carry them or use a lift where there is one. I have not read that clause myself, so check the text if it matters to you.
Are the Spanish Steps Worth It
The Spanish Steps are worth it, with or without tickets for the Spanish Steps, if you treat them as a stop on a walk and not as a destination. The Wikidata record gives 1725 as the opening year and Francesco de Sanctis as the architect (Wikidata), and the Rome tourism board adds that a restoration funded by Bulgari reopened them in September 2016. At the top you reach the church of Trinita dei Monti and a wide view over the roofs of the old centre.
What the steps do not give you is something to do for an hour, which is why Spanish Steps tickets add something. A pasta class is the lazy way to turn the neighbourhood into an afternoon. The Cheforaday class with wine and tiramisu at $50 has 4.8 stars from 115 reviews, lasts 2 hours, and meets at the same Trattoria Amici at Via della Croce 34. It is a cooking lesson near the steps, with no walk to them included, and the listing is called Spanish Steps - Pasta Class only because of where it sits.

The Spanish Steps cost nothing; what Spanish Steps tickets charge for is a guide. The Golf Cart Roma Guide tour at $22 is a guided walk of the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain with exclusive access to Vicus Caprarius and its underground ruins, 1 to 2 hours, in English. It scores 4.7 from only 22 reviews, so the evidence is thin, and the listing says the meeting point depends on the option you select, with Vicolo del Puttarello 25 as one of them. Transport to the meeting point and food are not included.

“Donatella was a excellent guide. She was very helpful and informative. She explained many things exceptionally well and took the time to spend the time one on one to explain things. Would recommend her to anyone.” – GetYourGuide review
Prices are the lowest per-person prices on GetYourGuide when I last checked; the final price depends on the date, time slot and age.
Spanish Steps Tour
A Spanish Steps ticket for a tour that starts at the steps is rarer than you would think. The Live Virtual Guide underground tour at $46 starts in Piazza di Spagna according to its itinerary, although the listing says the meeting point varies by option. It heads to the Trevi Fountain and then to Vicus Caprarius, the underground area, and returns to Piazza di Spagna. It lasts 2 hours, the group is capped at 12 people, and the price covers the underground aqueduct entry tickets and a guide you can reach by phone or WhatsApp. It has 4.8 stars from 581 reviews, and the listing’s language is English, so this Spanish Steps ticket suits English speakers only.

“Valeria was an excellent guide! She was extremely knowledgeable and easy to understand. She looked after the group at a very comfortable pace and was very helpful and engaging. I highly recommend this tour with Valeria.” – GetYourGuide review
Reviewers praise their guides by name and describe a comfortable pace. If you want the guided option and the steps are the point, I’d rank this above the walks that finish there. For a view of what the underground part involves, my Trevi Fountain tickets page compares the other tours that go to the same ruins.
Are the Spanish Steps Safe at Night
The Spanish Steps are an open, public staircase with no gate, and I found no closing time on the city tourism page, so you can walk past at night. I did not find an official crime figure for the steps, so I will not claim a rating either way. The usual advice for any busy tourist square applies: keep your phone and wallet in front pockets and don’t leave bags on the ground.
None of the 10 Spanish Steps tickets I compared is a night tour of the steps, so I’d check the booking page of any tour for its start times. After dark the steps are likely quieter than at midday, but I can’t give you official visitor numbers, and the sitting ban applies at night too.
Spanish Steps Restaurant
You don’t eat on the steps, because the regulation bars sitting and eating there, so the question becomes where to eat nearby. The product tied to this heading is the Tix and Tours walk at $56, 2.5 hours, 4.7 stars from 46 reviews, in Spanish and English. It is a leftover for this heading, because it is a walking tour with no meal. It starts at Piazza del Popolo, goes through Piazza di Spagna, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Navona, and lists no entrance fees, with a visit inside the Pantheon not included.

“Islam is a good tour guide in Rome, because the guide had explained for us the History, the ancient monuments, Historical sites, Gates of Rome, History of the Vatican and Italy” – GetYourGuide review
If you do want a restaurant, the closest thing in my data is the cooking classes, which take place inside Trattoria Amici at Via della Croce 34, a short walk from the steps. The photoshoot meets at Babington’s Tea Rooms on Piazza di Spagna 23, a tea room at the foot of the steps. Neither is a restaurant booking, and neither is one of the Spanish Steps tickets for the staircase itself.
Spanish Steps in Spanish
In Italy the staircase is the Scalinata di Trinita dei Monti, named after the church at the top, per the Rome tourism board. The English name comes from the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, which stands at the foot in Piazza di Spagna, according to Wikipedia.
If you want Spanish Steps tickets for a tour in Spanish, four listings here offer it. The Naples Together cooking class near the steps, at $73, runs in English and Spanish, lasts 2 hours and includes the tiramisu, homemade fettuccine, wine or a soft drink and espresso or limoncello. It scores 4.8 from only 29 reviews and is the priciest product on the page.

“Claudia is great!! She’s funny, knowledgeable, and she gave us lots of great tips. Really great walking tour—we got to see a lot of the city. Highly recommend.” – GetYourGuide review
Before you buy Spanish Steps tickets, note that Google Maps lists no opening hours for the Spanish Steps, because they are a public space, and the Rome tourism page lists none either. The Spagna metro station is at the foot of the steps, about a 1-minute walk, and Barberini is about 9 minutes away; both are my estimates from Google Maps coordinates. Details are in my Spanish Steps opening hours and visitor guide.

Five of these Spanish Steps tickets are real guided walks with a clear route. The rest are a class, a photoshoot or an underground tour, and I’d say so before you book. The listings’ own pages are the place to check what an option includes.
Near Spanish Steps
Whatever Spanish Steps ticket you book, the steps sit at the edge of the old centre, and the sights below are on foot. Distances are my estimates from straight-line coordinates, multiplied by 1.3 and walked at 4.8 km/h. The Trevi Fountain is about 9 minutes away, and my Trevi Fountain tickets page covers it, while the Pantheon is roughly 15 minutes away and has its own Pantheon tickets comparison. Above the steps, the Pincio and Villa Borghese gardens are a walk uphill, with the Borghese Gallery beyond.
Piazza Navona’s Fountain of the Four Rivers is about 18 minutes away, the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II and Trajan’s Forum about 20, Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza del Campidoglio about 23, and the Colosseum about 31 minutes, with its own Colosseum tickets comparison. The Mouth of Truth is about 32 minutes and St Peter’s Basilica about 39.
How I’d Choose
Cheapest Spanish Steps ticket: the $22 City Wonders walk for a Pantheon entry, or the $22 Golf Cart Roma Guide tour if you want the underground ruins.
Spanish Steps tickets with entry included: the $39 Crown Tours walk, with the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain area listed.
A tour that starts at the steps: the $46 Live Virtual Guide underground tour, capped at 12 people.
Food, as a Spanish Steps ticket: the $50 Cheforaday class, the most reviewed product here, or the $73 Naples Together class if you need Spanish.
Photo Spanish Steps tickets: the $61 PhotoStorica photoshoot, but only 12 reviews so far.
Spanish Steps tickets in Spanish: the Tix and Tours walk at $56 or the Crown Tours walk, both listing Spanish.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need to buy tickets for the Spanish Steps?+
No. The Spanish Steps are a public staircase in the open air, and I found no entrance ticket, gate or timed slot for them on the city tourism page. Every Spanish Steps ticket on GetYourGuide is really a guided walk, a class or a photoshoot that includes the steps, not a pass to get on them.
Is it free to visit the Spanish Steps?+
Yes, walking up and down the Spanish Steps costs nothing. What the city does regulate is behaviour: Rome's urban police regulation of 2019 bans sitting on the steps, and Wikipedia reports a fine of 250 euros, rising to 400 for soiling or damage. Check Roma Capitale for the current figure.
Can you sit on the Spanish Steps?+
No. Roma Capitale's police regulation, approved in June 2019, bans sitting on listed monuments and names the Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti among them. You can walk up, stop on the landings to look at the view and take photos, but not sit or eat on the steps.
How much do Spanish Steps tours cost?+
The 10 products I compared run from $22 for a city-centre walk or a golf-cart tour up to $73 for a cooking class near the steps. Guided walks that include entry to the Pantheon or the Trevi Fountain area cost $39 to $56. A private photoshoot is $61.
Which Spanish Steps tour is the best one?+
For a first visit I'd book the Crown Tours guided walk at $39: 2.5 hours, 4.6 stars from 282 reviews, with the Pantheon entry and the Trevi Fountain visitor-area access ticket listed as included, and the Spanish Steps as the last stop.
How many steps are there in the Spanish Steps?+
Wikipedia gives 135 steps on a slope 29 metres high. The Rome tourism board describes 11 flights of 12 steps each, which adds up to 132, so the exact count depends on whether the landings and the top approach are included. I'd call it about 135 and not promise a number.
Are there tours that start at the Spanish Steps?+
Yes. The Live Virtual Guide underground tour at $46 and the PhotoStorica photoshoot at $61 both start in Piazza di Spagna, and the cooking classes meet at Trattoria Amici on Via della Croce, two streets away. The other walking tours start elsewhere and end or pass here.
